By Hand or with the Machine?

Hello to everyone ^_^ I know most of you would have a washing machine at home or at your place, given that we're communicating with computers as you read this post :) Anyway, perhaps you all know how to wash your clothes with the aid of the washing machine. Quite practical, I should say when you do a lot of laundry. However, do you also do your laundry by hand? As in manually wash them with your hands, bar of soap and water with a basin or something? Squated while doing it? I first learned how to wash clothes by hand before learning how to use our washing machine ^_^; How about you guys?

I used to hand wash all my clothes during my nursing college days. But I really thank God for the technology of washing machine. I can do multi tasking having a washing machine and don't have to squat. The laundry can be going on in the machine while I cook / mop the floor. Plus my husband's heavy jeans can go into the machine without me having to squat and scrub and rinse them off. It's a heavy job.LOL

I used to do that a long while ago even though we had a washing machine. I used to wash some of the expensive clothes I bought by hand but too lazy to do so now, hahaNow everything is "machinized" haha

before, when I am with my mom, I don't do the laundry, we do have our maid to do the chores. of all the house hold chores I really hate doing the laundry. as it makes my hands so itchy right after I use the laundry soap. and my mom never let us learned how to do it. but now that I have to live on my own, I really need to know how to do the laundry..without the help of others.. you know what, I really cried the first time I wash my clothes. because I don't know how to start it.LOL. I am staying at my best friend's house that time, then she saw me crying, because I can't start it all.. then I told her that I don't know how to do the laundry..then she said , why didn't I seek help from her.. you know what, I feel ashamed of myself.. that I don't know how to do the Laundry.from then, I cried and I cried.. then she laugh at me, and taught me how to do it.. LOL. sorry for that long story. anyway, I do wash those whites with the use of my hands. I always make sure that there's no stains left on it.. because we aren't sure if washing machine can remove those little stains on white clothes. with our under wears/garments, I also use my hands in washing those.. with the colored clothes, jeans, and large clothes, of course, I wash it with the help of washing machine. and let it also dry with the use of dryer.. (my hands are too small to squeeze all of those!) I tried to wash our clothes with the use of my hand, even drying it.. you know what, I got sick right after that.LOL. washing machine is a great help. I thank the person who invented it.

Don't worry, I enjoy reading things like that from responses of those who participate in discussions I've started. Long or short, significant human experience(s) none the less. I often do that too on my comments or replies that I post on dicussions which I participate in whenever I can. Hehehe, look what happened when you cried infront of the clothes you wanted to wash? They got washed in the end after all and learned how in the process Some stains are indeed can't be removed by the usual routines of washing machines which makes hand washing provide quality upon cleaning. So goes with delicates that sometimes get wrecked afterwards when you leave it to the washing machine's capabilities. The favourite part that I like doing is wringing the clothes I wash but, I often enjoy too much and spend a lot of water so I often get cautioned when I get carried away. Do you know who invented the washing machine by the way?

Oh!yeah, and every time I wash our clothes, I feel so happy and never care for the pain I am feeling (especially on my back), and right after I wash those clothes, I feel so fulfilled every time I see them hanging in there.LOL. and yeah, I agree with you, those delicate fabrics should wash by the use of hands. with regards on who invented the washing machine, base on my research, it was invented in 1797 by James king, and was patented in 1851. for more info. here's the link for it. http://inventors.about.com/od/wstartinventions/a/washingmachines.htm

i usually just dump my clothes in the washing machine, ours is the automatic one. but for some delicate clothes and most of my working clothes i'll hand wash it. i usually do my laundry once a week, most of the time during the weekends since weekdays i'm working and will be tired when i get back home

I seem to notice that the water output from the faucet would be less during weekends compared to weekdays.. seems like everybody else washes their clothes during weekends..

i do most of the laundry in a washing machine and a dryer. there is a few things of my kids clothes (that was given to them) that have to be hand washed. i do that standing at the sink. then theres certain things that i wash up in the washer but then have to be hung to dry. and with as crappy as the dryers are in the apartment building i live in there always seems to be alot that has to be hung up to finish drying cause no matter what you spend just on the dryer things just still don't dry completely.

I think the dryers at the apartment needs to be replaced with new ones to have them dry up clothes more efficient. Indeed, there are those clothes that really requires hand washing ^_^ Thanks for sharing yours about the topic :)

we all have told the superintendants and the property manager that dryers aren't working. they say the will have someone in to "fix" them. but i've been hearing that since i moved in 4 years ago.

When washing delicate clothing it should be by the hand otherwise use the machine.

Hi friend, when i have more clothes to wash, i prefer washing machine. Otherwise i go for hand wash. Also i am very lazy to wash my clothes. In one of my room, there i heap my used clothes and when attain a certain height, i started to wash one by one.

You wash your clothes one by one with a washing machine? Wouldn't that take longer than to just wash all your clothes with color and then those that are just whites at the same time than one by one?

I believe you're also from the Philippines, as I myself am a guy who knows how to hand wash my laundries!;) I only wash some by hands, especially those delicate ones. I also prefer hand-washing to remove dirts, like those from white shirts we have. We only had our washing machine during the mid-90's, so I first learned it by hand. I only put huge laundries such as blankets, bed covers and bath towels in it.

By also would mean you as well ^_^ well, in case you did venture in the country yet now are in a different place by chance.. Indeed, when special items needs to be dealt with, hand wash seems appropriate while big ones really do need machine aid. Thanks for responding ^_^

We don't have a washing machine since moving into our house. Just never could afford one. Funny thing, we could afford a computer, but not a washing machine! I smell foul play! Washing is my job and I have to use local laundry for loads of clothes. Very inconvenient.

What do you mean by local laundry? You mean you take all your laundry to some place where they'll wash all your clothes for you? That's the thing that comes into my mind..

I only do manual wash if there's no other way i.e. the fiber is not meant for wash machine or such. I guess I'm lazy one xD Besides I don't belive I can get rid off some dirt only by myhands force:P
