The musical hairspray

I have very recently watched the film hairspray, I thought that the film was really good, With all of the songs and the dancing i thought was so uplifting. John Travolta played his part brilliantly and he was pretending to be a woman. Has anyone else seen the new hairspray and if so what did you think to it?

I watched it only this weekend actually and I really enjoyed it. I begged my partner to take me to see it while it was in the cinema as I love musicals, but we missed it. He agreed to watch it with me the other night and was really surprised that he liked it too! John Travolta was really funny. I definitely want to buy the DVD.

I knew nothing about the original movie or the broadway musical before I watched the recent remake of Hairspray, and I fell head over heels in love with the musical. It is one of those rare movies/musicals that just radiate happiness in every aspect of the movie, from the script, the songs and the performances. I had a huge grin the entire time I was watching the movie. Additionally, I loved the central theme of the movie: acceptance and integration. During the 60's, a very important theme indeed, but even in today's society it is still a theme that needs to be promoted, sadly enough. The songs are so catchy that they make me want to dance along when I hear it! I think the special edition dvd has dance instructions in the special features! It'd be pretty neat to learn the moves, but I don't know where I would ever put the dance to use except in my own living room. Great movie!

I've seen the Hairspray movies (both the original and the movie remake) and I saw musical on stage. While I liked the movie musical ok, I didn't particularly like Travolta as Edna. He just seemed wrong to me. I much preferred the stage version, personally. Although, I will say that I liked how Inez won the dance competition at the end of the movie.
