Times really have changed. That is especially true when it comes to giving gifts. In 1950 or even 1960, you could give a homespun gift such as an large pan of lasagna, or a plant you potted from seed, a blanket you made...you get the idea. Today, I don't know if that is true or not. I love homespun gifts. What is one homespun gift you love to give and one you love to get. I make gingerbread houses so I do love to give them but I don't know if they are really appreciated. If you are thinking...what can I get Yessie for a gifts...think no more. I can help you with that. A quilt would be lovely. Go ahead..think no more, get started on it now. Christmas will be here before you know it! Amber, do I hear you fumbling with your needles? Good girl!

Hello Yestheypayme2dothis, I'm not much of a craft person myself but I can say that I prefer handmade gifts to something store bought simply because I know it came from the heart and wasnt some last minute decision. My wife ussually makes quilted wall hangings for all of her kids every year. I think a gingerbread house sounds really nice myself. Sounds like it would be somthing to look forward too! Take care, Terry

Hi Terry, I like making gingerbread houses as it relaxes me. That is such a nice gift from your wife to your children each year.

As a professional crafts person I would love to say that handmade is appreciated - and I am certain that things purchased by my customers are certainly appreciated when they are kept or given for gifts. But I must say that within my family they are not appreciated. When we have given some of the profession quality things that we have made to family members the reaction is (though not spoken) oh, you made this. What's the matter, too cheap to buy something! Sad, but true. We learned long ago to save our work for strangers. Want to see my work - http://www.qbranchltd.etsy.com

I was just looking at your work on your website. You have very nice items on a very easy to use website. Your family should be very happy to receive such gifts. I have found that not only do people not appreciate homespun gifts today, but even in buying a gift, you still can't get it right. People tend to put a price on everything. If you give money, it is not enough money. I buy very few if any gifts now.

I'm not too good at sewing or anything like that, so my homespun gifts are usually something edible, like brownies or banana bread. I have a favorite afghan that my sister in law crocheted for me. I love the gingerbread houses, and I think that anyone who gets one as a gift is lucky.
