When do babies start to sleep through the night?

My 3 month old has slept from 7 pm until 6 am for the past two nights. While I consider this a blessing, I can't help but wonder if it isn't a little bit early for her to be sleeping through the night. I could have sworn that with my older daughter she didn't sleep through the night until about 6 months. Does anyone know when babies usually start sleeping through the night?

I slept through the night from the day my mom brought me home. I however was not that lucky with my son. If you can believe this, he didnt sleep through the night steadily until he was almost 3. I was beginning to think it was NEVER going to happen. He would go a few nights and sleep all night, then it would go back to waking up 2 and 3 times a night. I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant with my second son and hope to heck that he sleeps through the night alot earlier lol

I think it is something that can be very different with each child. I was very fortunate in that my first 2 sons were both sleeping through the night on a daily basis by the time they were 3 and 4 months old. The twins however, were a different story. They finally both slept through the night once at 6 months old, but they weren't both sleeping all through the night, every night, until they were closer to 12 months old. I know of some children who at 8 or 9 yrs of age, still do not sleep through the night. The parents of one boy eventually adapted by giving him his own vcr and tv in his room when he was 4 yrs old, so that he could entertain himself and let the rest of the family sleep.

My little man is now 13 months and still wakes up usually once in the middle of the night. We are still nursing (Of course he reads regular food at meal times too). When he wakes, I change him, nurse him and put him back to bed. He usually goes to bed about 9pm, sleeps for 4-5 hours, wakes up and then sleeps until 8am. I have yet to figure it out. If you do, please let me know. Also, I don't think my little man really gets hungry or thirst in the middle of the night, i just think he wants his mommy to cuddle with. :0)

Does anyone really have a time frame for when kids start sleeping thru the night? My son started sleeping thru the night at 2 weeks old---oh I miss those days. My daughter who will be 6 yrs old next month has yet to sleep thru the night. If you can figure the time line out please let me know---or pass on the secret for getting her to sleep thru the night. I have taken away naps and that still does not work.

Every baby is different. My youngest is 11 months and has been sleeping through the night since 2 months. My other 3 I don't remember when it was, my friends 2 year old still doesn't sleep through the night all the time.
