Do you know of any local bands in your community? If so, do you like them? Do you go to see them in concert? Who are they? Are they known outside of your city/town? I'm in London, Ontario, Canada, and we have many local bands. My favourite is a group called "Bobnoxious". They are a punk metal band, and oh so much fun!:) They could best be compared to sounding like AC/DC... the music is all about partying, rocking out, and having a great time! I have become a bit of a Bobnoxious groupie I'm afraid. Sigh! Not in the stereotypical groupie sense, of sleeping with the band and such.. hahaha.. .but in the sense that since this past summer, I've seen them in concert 3 times, and hate the thought of missing another one. They're next playing in town on Good Friday, March 21, 2008, at a local bar called "Norma Jeans". As long as I have someone to go with, I will be there. (I went to their last concert there on my own, and that just wasn't as much fun as with friends). If you're interested in learning a bit more about them, visit their website at www.bobnoxiousrock.com

I don't know of the venues you're talking about.. I was raised in Toronto, and "back in the day" it was all about "The Diamond".

I recognize a bunch of those names... Sven Gali, David Wilcox, Sass Jordan, and Max Webster. I thought Sass was from the Montreal area? I know she used to sing backup for The Box, so maybe that's why I'm thinking that. We have a few great tribute bands that are regulars around here in London. I'm not sure if they're from here though... Sandman (Metallica tribute)... and there's an AC/DC tribute band... darnit! I can't remember their name.. I want to say Hell's Bells... but I could be very wrong.

I listen to a few local welsh bands and I'll go to as many of small gigs as possible. I prefer small gigs with little known bands to "chart-gigs". My boyfriend is in a welsh band that's just started out, and so I know how important it is to support locals bands

I know what you mean about the small gigs. It is such a different feel, and a better one to me, compared to the massive stadium shows. And the smaller the venue, the more likely the band is to "schmooze" with the audience at breaks and after their sets. :)

I think it's great that you're supporting your local bands through your myspace. :) I am not a myspace user, and had a bit of trouble navigating through your page, but I'll look into it again once I have more time.

Hey! Yes, its good to support local bands. Not only do you get to hear some good stuff that might not get play on national TV and radio, but it helps bands starting out too. At the moment we don't have any local bands I'm really into - those bands have made it big but we were there at the beginning. The biggest right now is Maximo Park who are doing well worldwide and we stil see them now and again locally even though they spend more time elsewhere in the world.

I agree that supporting local bands is great. They tend to give back to the community that gave to them. I know Bobnoxious is big with that.. they hold fundraisers for children's programs and services in the London area, and take part in some local radio station gags and gimmicks as well. They even take part in the Santa Claus parade... except for in 2007, when they were performing in Toronto for the Grey Cup celebrations.
