Pour some hydrogen peroxide over the stain then use some soap and cold water.

I am sorry, I have re-read your post and I don't think you should use the peroxide on the carpet. Just use soap and cold water. This is they way we get blood stains out of our white lab coats in the hospital.

I've had good luck using Resolve and a scrub brush. It worked on blood. For stains other than blood, a generic degreaser (economical choice) might do a good job. The elbow grease you use with a scrub brush helps. Woolite''s Oxy-Deep also works well, but I haven't used it with blood stains, so can't say how effective it would be. Good luck!

I'm not sure what works best on that but I tend to try multiple things to see which one. If it had just happened I would tell you not to scrub at first. I've always had good luck with a little clear dishsoap and a little water. Oxyclean got chocolate out. And they have the a store brand I want to try. I think its resolve or something. I've also used laundry detergent with that color safe bleach.
