Are you involved in parents as teachers? We have had parents as teachers here. Melanie our parents as teachers lady comes out once a month to the house and spends about an hour with my daughter. She test my daughters development skills and gives me some ideas of what she should be learning next. It is really a great program. If it is available in your area it is something that is worth looking into.

It's the first I'm hearing of such a programme. I don't think we have it in India. So, what is it? A parent comes home to test your child's development skills? You didn't mention how old your daughter is and where this parent is from. Is it an organization that assigns certain homes for certain parents? I'd like to know a little more about the program.

My daughter turned one year old a few weeks ago.A person who is trained in child development comes to the house and shows the parents what the child should be learning to better help the parents teach their children. Here is a list of some of their goals. * Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices * Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues * Prevent child abuse and neglect * Increase children's school readiness and school success

Thanks for enlightening me and no, we have nothing like that here. Maybe I should start something like that. I've been a kindergarten teacher and have handled kids as young as 1.5 yrs. Instead of thinking what the parents are doing wrong before a child starts school, it would be better to be pro-active and do something about it. geez! I just went off to dreamland and thought about the payment factor! Back to firm ground!

This program is unfamiliar to me. Sounds like something that should be implemented in many areas to help enhance a childs education.

The program is from birth until age 4 or 5. It is nice because they tell parents what milestones your child should be approaching next. They give a range not an exact age. My daughter had her 1 year test a few weeks ago and is doing some things that are not to be expected until around 18 months.

Sounds like a good program. But we don't have that setting here. What we have here is somewhat like a tutorial program, wherein after class, the teacher can provide the student an hour or so for tutorial, sort of an extension of class hours. But this are for those who have low grades or even with good grades and the parents just want some extra learning for their child to gain advantage, and its optional. Of course this would be an extra payment. What we do however, is do the tutoring ourselves. In most cases it is my wife who does the review for every lesson they conduct each day and see if our child has understand the lesson. If my wife is busy or is somewhat caught up at work, then it would be me who does the review. During Saturday, we sort of summarize the topics and give our child sort of a summary exam, for every good result, he will have a special treat, on Sunday instead of just the normal outing.
