Best way is to ignore the behavior. As for your bird getting weak after laying eggs, the calcium is being depleted from her system. Give her a cuttlebone and supplement foods with a vitamin supplement that you can get at a pet store.

Unfortunately once a bird (female) reaches maturity there is little to be done. Since breeding season is in full swing now, it may be just a seasonal thing. At any rate, get some calcium in her! I know you don't want to lose her.

That is odd.. i do not know how birds fertilize their eggs, but maybe you should find her a mate of her own that she can have baby birdies with! what type of bird is she? what about letting her outside the house on a leash thing if she is not a regular pet bird you would buy in a pet store.. spring time is a coming! maybe it would help.. or maybe its time to release her into the wild!!

she is a cockotile and I don't like the idea of a leash but she is free to go anywhere in the house any time she wants, as long as the door is open and I live in london so she has next to no hope out side the house because of the flying rat and various other wild animals.

It can be very difficult to get birds to stop laying eggs. The suggestions I got when my cockatiels wouldn't stop making babies was to decrease the amount of light they got and reduce the temperature. Instinctively they don't like to lay eggs when it's cold because that makes it harder to incubate them. You should definitely get a cuttle bone and/or a calcium block to help her stay healthy. My female cockatiel LOVES to eat cheese when she's laying eggs. I suggest something simple like shredded mozzarella. That always works well for her. You can also feed her healthier food like pellets. Our birds won't eat pellets so we give them soft oatmeal bread. Whole Wheat bread also works well.
