I am a female who many would consider upped class... I have a total of 9 percings and 2 tattoos... I am often approached by people I see on the street that say they have never seen someone "like me" with all the holes in there bodies... I didnt know that you had to be a certain way to enjoy having percings...

Hello. I think that you had better move to the UK fast. Half the women I see these days have piercing and/or tattoos. Although I would not call myself a fan, nor could I name one of her songs, but Amy Winehouse's look is certainly not too unusual on our city streets. I don't think that people would be too perturbed if you were to wander about over here. Indeed certain piercings are almost de rigeur with the smart set here, especially navel piercing (so my daughter tells me anyway).

Hello, to you over in the UK!!! There is definitely a different mind set in Europe. You've just made me realize something. My permissive views just may be because I was raised by my European Mother!! She is from Switzerland. The teen crowd has always been more expreesive of their style, as I do recall, in Europe. As a matter of fact my daghter, when 12 years of age, wanted a navel piercing. I said no ofcourse, and recently she has told the 15 year old boy that she is now thankful that she never had it done!!!!!!

I didn't know either! but i remember when i was growing up it was pretty hard to get a job if you had tattoo's and peircings anywhere visable really! Now i see kids in the grocery stores and just about every where else with peircings and funky coloured hair! i'm glad i was part of the beginning stages of this movement and people are now more open to it! Good for you on keeping your peircings even though some people may look down upon you for having them. Stick with what you like, and be unique! :)

the only way you have to be to enjoy peircings is open minded. it mostly has to do with the culture we live in today. as time grows so does the norms for peircing and bpdy art. the younger generation in the us and other western cultures have started to exept peircings and body art, while the older generations tend to dislike it. my grandmother always tells me how much she hates my tongue ring and thinks i should take it out. haha. so i just ignore what other people have to say, as long as im happy, thats all that counts. its funny becuase other cultures, like in africa. . . you have to be pretty in order to wear some peircings or other norms. personally i can't wait to turn 18 so i can get a tattoo. i think some tattos can be really pretty. i also want my belly button peirced!

People have their impressions here in the States. It is unfortunate how judgemental they can be. Don't worry about what they think. I personally find this look to be appealing, even though my ears are the only things pierced and I have no tattooes!!!!(But my son does not know this!!!!!)
