Are roleplaying games dying?

To the roleplaying community out there: is traditional roleplaying dying? With traditional I don't mean any particular genre (like fantasy or horror) or style (hack'n'slash, storytelling) but the fact to sit around a table a play a role playing game (as opposed to computer rpgs). There seems to be a trend on discontinuing lines: is the public fed up? Are there too many editorials with too similar offers for a bussiness whose interest may be fading? Is this going anywhere new or nowhere?

I still have a friends who play Rpgs. It does seem like there's nothing really new offered & that the videogames are taking over. It's no surprise that in an electronic age that paper, books & imagination is being replaced by computers. Frankly it's easier to log in than to gather everyone from their hectic schedules.

But even the most open ended rpgs are very linear, they have just a 1-10% of the possibilites of a "real" rpg. On the other hand I don't think it's all to blame to the new generations: I love plenty of people who play both table and computer rpgs: they fullfill different niches of interest to them. Do you feel computer rpgs are the dire reason of the shrinking in paper rpg production? Or do the overwhelming amount of different rpgs another important reason? Divide a cake in enough parts and some people in the party will say they don't want to taste it...

I think it's more the pace of society now that's causing it. The groups I played with always had a hard time getting everyone together in the same place & time. When you did get them together by the time you got set up you'd lost a lot of your limited playtime. The electronic versions don't require all ( or at least most ) of the players be available. You can just log in & do whatever until your friends show up, if they show up. Granted they'll never have the diversity of gameplay or full social interaction but their beating them out on simple convenience.
