What is your favourite way to get rid of old junk?

Over the past few days I've been home sick, so I have been tyring to get caught up on things around the house. As I start to go through boxes, drawers, closets, etc. I am starting to realize how much JUNK I have. It's not all junk necessarily, but I don't really have much use for it anymore. I briefly experimented with Ebay, but it's not always worth it in my eyes, especially when the thing you want to sell is only going to sell for a small amount of money. I've been experimenting with the Facebook marketplace but you definitely reach a limited audience and I have only had minimal success with this. So my question is this: what is your favourite way to turn trash into treasure? And how to you get the most out of your sales/auctions?

Craigslist is a fairly reliable service, and popular enough that you're bound to find a higher selection of potential buyers than some other free sites. I agree it's not worth posting on eBay unless what you're trying to sell is a thing of considerable value, but the thing about eBay is, you never know how much someone will value something you have. How many thousand dollars did that piece of cheese toast with a face on it sell for? It's all in how you market your stuff, I guess. That said, my favorite way to dispose of my old junk is to throw it over the railing of my balcony into my back yard. Not so much profitable, but definitely rewarding in its own way. :)

If I had anything that I thought was valuable, I would get it valued. However, I think there is a lot to be said for the humble boot sale - not very lucrative, but anything is better than nothing and there is also the satisfaction of knowing that you have decluttered.

That's a good point. But if I were going to simply go that route, I would probably list everything on freecycle and it would certainly be gone a lot faster. Times are kind of rough right now financially and I would really like to turn this extra stuff into cash, even if it is just a small amount.

I like using ebay to sell things. The way I look at it, the item better be worth enough for the fees to be worth it. It's quite dependent on what it is you are selling.

Yes, I definitely agree. The things I am looking to sell at this point in time aren't really a good fit for Ebay I don't think. If they were things that were more unique I think Ebay would be a good place to try but what I want to get rid of doesn't have a collector value really. I just want to garage sale a bunch of my stuff I'm not using anymore, but it's way too cold and I don't have a front lawn ;-)
