Okay..bear with me....I tend to equate things with stories I've read...so..I happen to be a Harry Potter fan and right now I'm reading Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix...(again) I was just pondering the recent "helpful" discussion made by He-Who-Must Not Be Named...but instead of the name starting with a V as in Voldemort it begins with the third letter of the alphabet...I just couldn't help thinking that our "helpful" newcomer who has all the answers to how things should be run is similar to the character of Professor Dolores Umbridge who works for the Ministry of Magic, but is now at Hogwarts where she can keep a careful eye of how things should be run at Hogwart's and in effect spy for the Ministry of Magic. If you remember she kept giving out decrees of what could and couldn't be done. She could fire (ban) teachers that weren't up to par, prevented and banned Harry Potter (along with Fred and George Wesley) from playing Quittach...if a student was found with a copy of The Quibbler that had a feature given by Harry Potter where he revealed that he truly did encounter Voldemort and that he had indeed returned that student would be banned. She also refused to give any direct information and another decree she made that other professors weren't allowed to tell the truth. She also would not teach the students The Dark Arts which she was the professor of, and instead had the students only read the textbook without the students being able to practice defenses against the Dark Arts...BUT then...many of the students decided they wanted to really learn how to defend themselves....thus they created the DA--Dumbledore's Army. Okay....this kind of shows my vivid imagination at work..overtime I might add..LOL...but to turn this into a discussion...do you sometimes see parallels of stories from books with something that is going on in your life, or any situation even the one here?

Hi pye! Yes, there is some similarity indeed in my life! I was taught to always understand and be patient with people and not to be judgmental. So being meek has been instilled in me since i was a child. Now it is really hard for me to fight back and defend myself from people who are abusive and are really cruel. And if i try to fight back, I felt guilt inside of me because I was taught that these people who are abusive or cruel should be understood because there are bad things that happened to them that is why they are acting that way. And now that I am older, I find it really hard to just sit back and let them have their way but I find it difficult to deal with my conscience when I fight back because I think I am hurting them. So, I felt that I was not taught to fight back and put my foot down without feeling guilty. Make sense? Gosh, am I getting far to the topic? hehe..forgive me. Just my thoughts. take care and have a nice day!

I thank my lucky stars, that even though I was a very shy "meek" kid I still would stand up for myself if I was being abused or attacked by someone. No you should never feel guilty about standing ground for what you believe in

That is such a great book - one of my favorites :) All the Harry Potter books have such great morals and Dumbledore (or Rowling LOL) really 'knows' people, he's got great insight and wisdom. Yes I do often see parallel in the books I'm reading and here on line as well!

It annoys me when people are outraged over the Harry Potter books though, saying they are encouraging children to study witchcraft. There are a lot of morals in those books if people took time to really understand them, especially the ones who condemn them

No kidding!! I find them hilarious! LOL. Nearly every hard core Christian I've met who's actually read them - LOVES them!

After readig this I got this picture in my head of a pig with a pink bow on its head. I'm a Harry Potter fan too and I think you are on to something there. Let's just hope that we don't get detention in a similar way :P

Well, I was gone from MyLot for quite some time so I seemed to miss the uproar that has resulted in the introduction of the Q&A man. *shrugs* Although it wasn't all peaches and cream when I left though. I seem to recall some users negatively rating people just because they disagreed and even making discussions where they advocated the behavior. But I digress. Yes, I often draw parallels from real life to the literature and movie world. When that happens I have to applaud the creators who made the fictitious works because it shows that, even if they have wizards, dragons, or giant cyborgs, they created a story that not only enthralls but allows the viewer/reader to identify with the story and characters. :)

If you read a lot, there is bound to be something that borders on your personal reality. Especially if you have a good imagination and a good sense of verisimilitude. I think life is closer to fiction sometimes than reality.

A lot of people keep encouraging me to write my story....those who know what I've been through often say to me...know one would believe me and think I was writing fiction instead of what happened in my life

The Harry Potter series are great...regardless of what some narrow minded people think about it warping young minds and encouraging them to explore witchcraft. As we know those who have opened themselves to alternate realms are doing our best to live spiritually aware lives. More so than many who follow extreme religious dogma. Anyway, rant almost starting and I want to stick to the discussion. From my earliest recollections I identified with warrior women who had powers that they could not reveal to others because it would be too dangerous. I was so happy to discover Unity because it opened my eyes to metaphysical thinking and I realized that my inner knowing was something I trust. My genetic code is steeped in Celtic culture and my mother was a gifted clairvoyant...but was afraid to use the gifts she had. I have lived with energy based awareness my whole life and any story that explored the hero's journey...way back to the Wizard of Oz is something I believed parallels my own life path..and that continues to this day. It's funny you should mention the Wizard of Oz---some of the meaning in that story is similar to Maurice Maeterlinck's The Bluebird...meaning that so often we think happiness is somewhere "out there"....in essence all the characters of the Wizard of Oz are looking for something...the lion for courage, the tin man a heart, the scarecrow a brain, and Dorothy yearns for some "excitement" over the rainbow...the character in The BlueBird thinks her happiness is "out there" but in the end, each character finds that the happiness is inside them...the lion always really had courage, the tin man always had a heart, the scarecrow a brain, Dorothy acknowledges that happiness was right were she was...home..same in The Bluebird..it was staring them right in the face all along, but they all had to go on a "journey" quest (a la Joseph Cambell) to find it..and just think if they didn't there would be no story!
