I have 3 different breeds of flower horn in my house. Flower horn are very aggressive and a territorial species. They don't want other fishes to mingle in their territory. If you mingle the 2 flower horns in one aquarium, then it will fight each other. You must build a tank separator in your tank so that they will not meet each other. This is also one most important thing in breedings such fishes. A transparent glass will do to separate the two. That's what I do in my tanks.

Since Flowerhorns are hybrids they are not a species but rather a cross between two or more species of cichlids. The most prevelant species of cichlid involved in Flowerhorns is the Trimaculatus cichlid which is a very aggressive fish in it's own right. Add in hybrid vigor and you have a fish that is highly aggressive and territorial. It is possible that a male and a female might have viable young but there is no telling what the young will look like. They might just look like a drab grey colored fish that no one wants and you would have to figure out what you will do with several hundred of these fish that no one wants. So it is best to keep a flowerhorn as a pet and not try to breed them. Overseas where they are bred, I believe that they use horamon injections to get the adult fish to be ready to spawn and then hand strip the eggs and milt from the adults and then mix the eggs and milt to fertilize them.

They are hybrids so that even if they do spawn the eggs may not hatch or if they do hatch the babies may be sterile. But if you really want to try and spawn them. one way is to put a divider like an "egg crate" (the kind of thing that has plenty of holes in it and is used on fluorescent lights as diffusers, small squares about 1/4 to 1/2 inch . You will have to cut this divider so that the fish cannot get around, over of under it and when they are ready to spawn (if you have a male and a female) the female will lay her eggs near the divider and the male will release his sperm near by and it (the sperm) will be able to go through the divider and fertilize the eggs. This will keep the cichlids from killing one another.
