Help me decide on what to buy a laptop or desk top?

I have a desk top at home but it's broken. The thing is the monitor and the keyboard are still ok. So help me out in deciding what to buy, should I just sell my keyboard and 17" monitor and buy a laptop which is second hand or just buy a CPU desktop? Is it worth to buy a second hand unit, be it a laptop or desktop? Which is better an Intel core 2 Duo or Pentium 4 or Pentium D. What's the difference? So many thanks to all.

Well in my point of views, you should buy a laptop instead of a laptop, if you don't have any application building work. means DVD Ripping , or Multimedia App. But if you have to just for general purpose then u hv to sell your k/b and monitor and bring a laptop of some lesser configuration instead of a monitor..

if you are bothered about money,i will suggest a desktop.as this is cheaper and lasts longer than a laptop.but in the same it consumes a lot of electricity,if you don't have a TFT screen.well laptop consumes lowest electricity and desktop has another problem of large space consumption. It can be better for you if you are planning to roam here and there with your laptop. But as i think desktop lasts 10 times more than a laptop.but you get the laptop it will save tour power and space as it comes with an inbuilt battery(so no need of an UPS). and comes the question of technology, who knows what is tomorrow's future?well till now i am sure core2duo is the best in its performance.

If this situation happens to me, I will change the CPU only. Since keyboard and monitor is in fine status, changing the CPU is much cheaper than buying a brand new desktop unless your hands are very itchy, want to spend more money then buy a brand new desktop is unavoidable. I will say Intel Core 2 Duo is better and faster than others described. Because it is the latest technology produced in the market by Intel. You can check out at http://www.intel.com, check the speed that you are using it for. For example, if you are using it for gaming, it is best to have 3.6GHz else 2.6GHz will be sufficient. The speed is up to your preference, I have no say on that.

laptop is more convenient but they have more problems with damage and theft control. you will have more of everything you need on a desktop with less of the headache and heartache of a laptop...but it all depends on what your individual situation is..i have a home and my wife and i share this computer..so we know where it is 24-7...no problems with dropping it or losing it..forgetting it in the car ...etc etc..but the expense is cheaper on a desktop and i would think you could get a better deal on a used desktop..

If you are concerned about money then I would recommend desktop as it gives a great configuration computer as compared to laptop. I would recommend core 2 duo, it is fast as compared to others

I think that desktops are better than laptops as they are better for your health in the long term, and they are much less easy to break or damage. For example, no matter how careful you are, you may be unlucky and spill coffee on a keyboard. If this is a laptop. its bye bye laptop, or expensive repairs. If you had a desktop in the same situation, its bye bye £20 keyboard but the tower would hopefully be safe (some computer desks protect the tower in a separate compartment). Laptops are good if you need to be mobile, but otherwise I would always choose a desktop. The specifications are also higher on desktops.

We buy laptop or desktop for same purpose but of your usage of quality is depand on this if you to stay in home and use it should be desktop if you wish to use anywhere than it should be laptop. I havnt good idea about difference between Intel core 2 Duo or Pentium D.

If you can get a laptop with a decent amount of capability, it would be better than a desktop, because you would have better moving versatility. Yet I dont know too much about the Pentium stuff anymore.. so sorry cant aid you there. :(

it depends on your usage... if you need lower costs and more power then you would need a desktop..... wheereas if you need portability as your main priority then get your self a laptop....

Try and sell what you have got and upgrade to a CPU desktop. If you can afford it go for a HP pavilion 743a. With the following features 1) Hp pavilion vf51 2) Hp cordless keyboard 3) Hp cordless mouse. 2.4 GHZ 512MB 80.0GB Combo Drive GeForce 4tm MX 420 best wishes for future hapiness.
