Everybody must have some experience with this. So I'll ask you: What do you think is the easiest and fastest way to learn a new language? I'm really interested in your answers.

The fastest way to learn a new language is to live in a country where it is spoken. I am learning Spanish so ideally I would move to somewhere in Latin America. It would probably be Antigua in Guatemala. I think if you have to stay in your home country it would be good to go to a language class. You could try the book and disk method if you couldn't do this. I learned French at school and day trips France and listenign to French radio helped.

Isn't it funny that some of the Italian students can read and write English but not speak it. I think that visiting England might be a good idea. TV programs in English might help these sorts of people.

I think one of the best ways to learn a new language is to be totally immersed in it. When you go to a country and you don't speak any of the language, after you've been there for a bit you start to pick things up pretty quickly. It's easy to learn fluidly when you are constantly being exposed to the language and in a position to be using it.

You are right. Unfortunately people can't always go to a country where the language they learn is spoken. But I plan on moving to England for some time to improve my english there.

For me, the best way to learn a new language is to find some good text books, get a good compiler, and then start coding. Make a program that you find to be useful and/or fun.

I also think that online language exchanges are very helpful. This way you can find somebody who speaks the language you want to learn and you can talk with them through Skype for example.
