Any dog if trained and treated properly can be great with kids. My friend has a pitbull and 3 kids. I have a rottweiler and 4 kids. The dogs are great with the kids. Another friend of mine will swear by golden retrievers being the best dogs to have with kids. And yet another will say German Shepards. So I really think it has to do more with how you dog is trained more so then what type of dog it actually is.

I dont know much about dogs, but what I think is that all domastic dogs are good with kids. Actually dogs is a loving animal and if you are looking after him since it is a puppy then those dogs are very loving and become a good friend.I am telling this from my experience. I have three dogs and my brothers 5 year son plays with the dogs like friends. He is all the time running fter the dogs or dogs running after him. What I think is that every one should have a pet in house . Pet keeps our house happy and refreshing.

A friend of mine has 6 children aged 1 to 10, 2 of which have ADHD. They have had a shitzu for years that puts up with anything without so much as a growl.

I think any dog is good. I think its good to have a puppy that grows up with the kids. They are usually the best of friends.

It has been my experience that if you can get a puppy and train it right, then any dog will be fine. However, my in laws had an Akita who was fully grown when we had our son. We were at the house one day, and when my son waddled by, she snapped at him and bit his face. My mother in law was very upset that this happened, but the dog was not used to being around small children. My advise, be cautious.

I would still go for beagles and dachshund. They go with kids of any ages. They can tolerate kids and children playfulness and hardly get bothered by the kids annoyance.

It depends on the dog I think. I have a rottie and he's great with my son. I have people tell me that I shouldn't have him with kids. He is very well trained, he is gentle with my son and he's a great dog. Alot of people tell me that black labs ~ labs in general and Retrievers are the best to have around kids. I think it depends alot on how the dog is raised too :)
