Well, I'm doing the 3-day walk in Washington. It's to raise funds for Breast Cancer. I've wanted to do it for years, and I'm totally committed to doing the next local one that works with my schedule. I can't do the next one because it's right in the middle of tax season and there's no way I could prepare for it, let alone take off the days. So, the fall one works for me.
I have no clue what's involved, other than walking for like 60 hours... But I know a few people (or the memory of a few people) that would make this a special event. I already have a couple "partners in crime" and am looking forward to this.
Have you ever done a charity walk? And what's really involved?

The only exercise that tones muscles from head to toe is brisk walking or jogging. The American Health Book says jogging is better in terms of burning of calories but those who cannot jog (due to knee problem or any other) can do brisk walking. I have been into this for more than a decade and it is a wonderful exercise provided one walks for 2 to 3 kms a day at one stretch. Swimming is another good exercise.
Walking for a cause is another great task. There were greatman in India who (Mahtma Gandhi) walked thousands of miles for the cause of Indian Independence and another great man by name Vinobha Bhave who walked thousands of miles along with followers to get the donation of land from landlords and distribute the same to landless. That was a great feat indeed. We do not see such feats being performed by anyone in these days.
Your cause for walk is laudable and wish you all the best in your endeavours.

I normally walk 2-3 miles every day, at about the pace of 4 mile an hour. I have been doing this for MANY years and find that it helps keep me a bit in shape and also helps with my stress levels. It's going to be neat to do this for a good reason though!
