star stands for

That is the 'Star Rating'. It is a slightly controversial system whereby MyLot evaluates your contribution to the community. Controversial because nobody really understands exactly how it works but it is certainly connected with how often somebody rates your contribution with a '+' ... and probably rather less to how often you are rated with a '-'. Your star will appear when you reach 100 posts (the number in brackets after your name). I would suggest that you don't take too much notice of it but that you DO occasionally use the '+' button to rate other people's discussions and responses if you feel they made a particularly good point.
