I think the plot is kinda simple and it is not very original either (it is very standard to start a story with an orphan and that he is supposed to be a kind of "chosen one"). Why do you think it was so successful?

I think Harry Potter is so popular because of the fantasy world. Its renewing than all the same plots in real-life movies. Its also fun to see more adventures of 1 person. You gonna look trough his eyes and get empathy for him.

I think it's a charming idea for a youngster to enter a mystical realm where wizards live in an out of ordinary world.

I really loved the whole series of Harry Potter. The reason I think it is so popular is because it's not intended for just one audience, it's for the whole family. The mixture of children that became friends and remained friends was nice to see too.
