Do you follow a theme when naming your children? or did your parents?
I have a friend who is one of ten all starting with K
another has 12 or 13 children all starting with R (interesting names they came up with) yet another friend with ten names them according to how many letters are in the first and second name...
I did not have a theme when I started having children, though I probably would come up with one now if I was just starting out...

My husbands family has a tradition of the first boy is to have the grandfathers first name as a middle name. although my husband and I broke that tradition, we are planning on the 2nd boy to have his fathers name as the middle. If we have a girl next, she will have a name with an "M", our son also has an "M" name. But if it's another boy, we won't keep the "M" theme going.

a doctor friend of ours had the tradition of naming the first daughter the grandmother's middle name as the first name...
she got clever and named her first born the grandmother's middle name as the first as supposed but then used her own first name as a middle -
this way her first grand-daughter will have her name :)
a good way to insure having a child named for you!

Good Afternoon Modestah, When my sons were coming along, I wanted only good strong names. I wanted their names to command respect and stand for the things I had envision for them as adults. So thats how I choose them. As it turns out my husband and I could not have done a better job with the choosing as each of their personalities fit the name. Or the name seems to blend so well with the personality. Funny how that happens.

that is really neat how that worked out for you! my son's name means restful, and he really is a peaceful sort of fellow... always has been, it is so fitting that I just can't help to wonder if either the name was inspired - or having been given the name just created that persona in him.

We chose our daughters names because we like them. However, our oldest daughter has my middle name. It has been passed down for generations.
I have a Uncle who named all five of his kids with names that started with "C"

there is a name passed down through the generations from my father's family as well -
either as a given middle name, or confirmation name.
I did not know this and when I chose this name as my confirmation name my father was so thrilled - as he had never told me of the popularity of it in the family.

In my family's case... we three sisters were suppose to have Maria as a first name... but the records person made a mistake with mine... so i am the only one without the name maria... when my brother was born... it would be odd to give him that name so my parents opted for the Mario... even my daughter and niece have a Maria in their name...

a beautiful and age old tradition! I love it! even Saint Therese (the little flower) was named Marie (Marie Francois Therese) and many holy men were name for Our Lady as well...
did you receive Maria at your baptism though? or confirmation?

I do have some friends who were named by their parents all with the same beginning letters like our neighbor whom all their children started with J, Jason, Jassel, Jonas, Joy, and I also have some friends whom their name were a combination of their parents name. Well, from what I think people are getting creative nowadays with names. As a Christian, I have notice before that people were named from a book that is mostly a guide for names or perhaps names from the bible like Joseph, Mary and so on.

All four children in our family begin with A. There was an unsuccessful attempt to break with tradition by naming the youngest Thomas Adrian. He is always known as Adrian, however!
I am reminded of the story of the single mother who had ten sons, all called Kevin. It was useful, she said, when calling them in for dinner. She just had to call "Kevin" and they all came in! "How, then, do you manage if you only want one of them?", the curious social worker wanted to know. "Oh that's easy!" said the mother, "I just use their surnames!"

We didn't find out if we were having a girl or boy so we picked both names. I wouldn't say we had a theme but we did want to give our kids names that mean some thing.
Chase Edward would have been our boys name Edward being my husband middle name and his grandfathers first name.
Since we had a girl we named her Luann Grace. Lu being from my great grandfather Ann being from my Great Grandmother and Grace being from my husbands grandmother.
My husband has 2 kids from a previous relationship. His son is Patrick Edward. His daughter is Brianna Shawn - Brianna being the girl version of Brian and Shawn being for an uncle that passed away. Its funny becuase before we even met I always loved the name Patrick and wanted to name my first son that. I didn't get to have Pat but I did get the name.

In my family, maternal side you give your daughter's middle name as your first. For example, my mother's name is Dianne Elieen. Her mother's name is Elieen. My namr is Martina Diana. My daughter's name will be Maya Martina, I think. I like the name Maya.

I have 4 'children' - Shawn, Shannon, Valerie, Shane. The 3 'sha's' are all boys the only one I didn't name was my daughter :( or she would have been an Sha also.
It's makes it so much easier when upset with them I just yell 'shaaaaa' and they all run. Of course it is common for people to confuse which is which but Val has been known to be called Shawn, Shannon, or Shane so oh well.

yep! I call my first daughter by her sister's name - or at least the beginning of it followed by her actual name, and my second daughter when calling first and middle name I will use her first name with her sister's middle name!
my son's name begins with No - so both the girls will get No- and then their name, I finally just say WHO EVER you are, after I go through the whole gambit trying to get their given name to come out of my mouth!

I named when kids name when I was still a kid..I mean no kidding..
I named my daughter after a cartoon character, KIARRA.. the daughter of legendary Simba.. When I was a kid I was watching this series and decided to give this name to my daughter to be the princess of the Jungle. Hahaha No wonder she roars like a lion.. a bit naughty like the charACTER but very affectionate kid..

I think my mother and father followed a theme..for all of our names starts with letter R, my 2 sisters named thier children too starting with letter R, my only brother named his 3 kids all starts with letter Y.
Now, I don't have kids yet but I think I'm gonna follow through letter R. :) because me and my hubby's name both starts with letter R.

Stick with the names that are in the family. Keep tradition going on and on and on and on.
