Pennies From Heaven

Finding a penny is always good luck, but only because it makes you a penny richer.lol Actually the belief is a little more involved than that. In order to keep the luck when you find the heads up penny you have to give the penny away to the first person that you see. People have forgotten that part of the superstition over the years. I hold to no superstitions, but I do know a lot of them because my Grandmother was a walking encyclopedia of them and I lived on a sailboat and researched them since so many sailors were interested in them. I did all the Boat denaming and renaming ceremonies for miles around where I live and folks still call on me to do it even though I do not live aboard anymore. Shalom~Adoniah

I've always heard that if you find a penny it's good luck there's a rhyme in fact "find a penny pick it up and for the rest of the day you'll have good luck". I've had coins that had the year I was born on them before but not for along time now, they all get melted down and re moulded every few years so they don't exist anymore.

I find pennies almost everyday. Almost every time I go any where there are alwasy a few pennies laying on the ground. I think people just throw them away because they feel they are useless or not worth anything and they are just heavy in their pockets, or something, because I always find them on the ground. I pick them up and put them into a seperate change purse I carry in my big purse. I use them when I go to the store. If something costs say $5.69 I will give the 9 cents in pennies. Some days I pick up at least those 9 pennies. I am not superstitious and I don't even look at the pennies to see which side is up. Maybe I will start to watch for that. lol

When I was a kid I would only pick up pennies that were heads. But I am more frugal now and will pick it up anyways. They add up over time. I don't usually look at the date when I pick up the penny.
