When do you start solids?

My three month old can hold her head up for a while now, not for hours or anything but for a while. I was wondering if I can start to give her baby cereal at this age? I can't remember when we started our first daughter on solids. Am I way off base? Is it too early to start solids?

I don't think i started my daughter on solids (with a spoon) until she was 4 months but from about 3 months onwards, i would add a spoonful of baby cereal in with her bottle - this would thicken the milk up & fill her up better. As i said above, i started her on spoon fed solids around 4 months old, just the basic baby cereals & porridge - then as she got used to those we started making puree'd things from a recipe book (it was called 365 meals) which incorporated pureed meats (mostly chicken or fish) with pureed vegetables & she seemed to like those!

My doctor told me to start cereal when my baby was 4 months old. Then start baby food when they are 6 months but only give one kind of food at a time to watch for allergies.

My daughter started eating baby cereal at 3 months and veggies at 4 months. I know a lot of doctors say to wait a little longer, but you should really go by what a baby can do not by age alone. If she can sit up fairly straight and hold her head up I would try it. She will let you know if she is not ready yet.

I started both my kids when they are about three months plus with a little spoonful of rice cereal.

I think its too early but you can already introduce some BUT make sure that you have asked your child's pedia because my 5-month old baby was not allowed to have solid solid when she was 3-4 months old because she is not gaining much weight and taking enough milk. That was just normal for her because she was premature. I started feeding her today, she is now 5 months old, turning 6 months on the 28th. She can hold her head up and can sit down when assisted.
