Yesterday there was a bad car accident in which one person died who didn't have seat belts on and two girls survived and they did have the seat belts on. The mother of the girls was surprised because she has a Drive Cam in their car and knows they never use them but is greatful that this time they did.
A palm-sized video and audio recording device mounted behind the rearview mirror captures what is happening inside and outside the vehicle. Unusual forces such as hard braking, swerving or a collision trigger the device to save the audio-visual footage from a few seconds before and after the incident. A blinking light alerts the driver so he or she can take note of what caused that event and aim to avoid repeating that behavior.
I think this is a great way to show very young drivers the things they are doing wrong when their driving and was surprised to see that this came out way back in 1998!!
Do you think this is a good idea for young drivers? Would you put one in your childs car?http://microsoftstartupzone.com/blogs/ebt_success_stories/archive/2007/08/31/drivecam-keeps-watchful-eye-on-risky-driving-behavior.aspx

I've seen these but only thought they had them in race cars so everyone could experience what the racers were. What a great idea though if I could afford it I would certainly have one in my kids cars especially when they first start driving... Of course I only have one left that doesn't have his lisence yet and he may be 50 before that happens if it's up to me :)

I would agree, ctry, that young people need all the help and guidance they can get because they don't always make good choices. Neither, for that matter, does some older people. I can see where these devices would be very useful -and they might even serve to encourage the drivers to drive more safely.

I think it's a great idea...especially for OLDER PEOPLE. People who have been driving for years and don't pay attention to the things they do wrong because they think driving is second nature to them. I completely disagree with the supposed "Statistic" about young drivers under 25 being bad drivers. I think that it's the adults.

Hi,
I am a pretty young driver myself (got my license when i was 19 and am almost 21 now) I do own my own car and I must say that even I would put one in my car. Why well I do get carried away sometimes when I have some fast music on (but believe it or not most of the time I have classic music playing just love beethoven etc). But if I get carried away I would like to be alerted and it would also be nice to have video footage if I would make an accident. Then it would be a lot easier to see who's quilty.
As for only putting it in the cars of young drivers I think this is wrong. I think they should integrate it into all cars. Why well as I said before when a driver does get carried away or does make an accident it is easy to see what happend. Also I think it would decrease accidents if drivers where warned when they drive too fast or brake all of a sudden etc.
With kind regards,
MOnline
PS I live in the netherlands and here you need to be 18 to get a license ;).
