Is your city ever in the news on tv during a storm?

Yesterday was a horrible rainy, windy day here in a northern suburb of Boston and the small city I live in was in the news a couple of times because of the flooding. The newsmen who were out in the streets reporting were up to their knees in water and when the occasional car drove by they got soaked. I live in a large apartment building and I went down to the basement to do laundry and had to stop at the stairs because it was flooded so bad. It's a good thing I decided to do laundry or Maintenance would never have known. I called them and they were here in no time with pumps to get the water out. My little city was on the news all day and night because of the severe flooding.
Does your city ever make the news during storms?

Once in awhile our town's weather makes it in the local news but national news usually reports on the larger cities such as Lansing (north of us) and Detroit (east of us).
It is a good thing you decided to do laundry - if the water stayed undetected it might have resulted in power outages as most buildings have the main power in the basement.

I'm one of the few people in this building who doesn't have a particular day that I do laundry. Most people do it on the weekend but since I don't do anything all week whenever the spirit hits me or the laundry is overflowing I do it. The maintenance man actually thanked me for not waiting until Saturday...lol

I don't watch the news on tv, but I do check it out everyday on Yahoo. Chicago did make the national news this past weekend. We had 3 degrees and -25 with the wind chill. It was truly unbearable to be outside for 2 minutes. Along with the cold weekend, we have been getting dumped with snow every week. It was the cold that made the headlines, though.
I can only remember bad flooding once here. In the early 80's we had water everywhere in the north suburbs. Flooding is horrible and it is much worse when it happens during the winter time.
Stay dry and stay safe!

Chicago is in the news a lot as far as weather is concerned. I think it's as bad there as it is in Boston.

I have seen Minnesota on the news many times due to severe storms. Just recently they had International Falls on the National News networks. They had the coldest temp in the continental USA with a recorded temp of minus 40 degrees farenheit. Minneapolis has also been on the news for storms due to huge pile ups during rush hour.

Yes, the city I live in has been on the news, mostly the weather channel. Thank goodness that don't happen too often though since we do live on the gulf coast and the reason for the news/weather people are hurricanes. We have been so lucky for years now, I guess then all the weather people are here it makes the hurricanes go a different direction. :)

not much.. our city is positioned in a way that most strom breaks before they get a chance o cause harm because of the surrounding mountains.. but that does not mean we are out of harms way.. it just means that othr regions are much more worth broadcasting..

We make the news when there is a major blizzard and none of the planes can land, and it is dangerous to go outside which seems to be most of the winter. We have had our usual January with wind chills, but it looks like it will be warming up, but that is rather late as usually by February at this time, the snow should be starting to melt.
The last major disaster was the Flood of the Century. Our basement was flooded when we returned from our trip to Vancouver to see my brother who was in the hospital for Hodkins disease. He got better, but he had to take early retirement.
So that was a mess to clean up. Good thing much of the stuff was on benches.

That happened in my town about a month or so ago. I live in a small town in Alabama called Leighton. We had some high winds and, I'm pretty sure, tornadic area. Thankfully our home wasn't damaged but a trailer about two blocks from where we live was damaged badly when a tree fell in through the living room. The family had left five minutes before it hit so the Lord was most definitely watching after them. Our little town was in the news for a couple of days after that with interviewing the family.

I'm in London, Ontario, Canada, and my city has been featured a few times on "The Weather Network". The time I remember most was in early December 2006. There was a narrow winter storm stream that hit us HARD, and overnight we got about 3 feet of snow! The city came to a standstill. Oh sure, it looked pretty... but what a mess! Funny enough too, it all melted away within a few weeks, and we ended up with our first "green Christmas" ever that year. lol.
