I am looking to get myself a cat from a shelter around the Newcastle - Gateshead area. Would you be able to recommend a charity, as I had a look on the Internet and I was overwhelmed? Or failing that, people who are breeders and willing to give their cats to a good home?
I am basically looking for a female kitten of no particular breed. Wouldn't really mind having any female healthy cat up to two years old to be honest.
I would be grateful if somebody can push me to the right direction.

class! I work up near there at a boarding kennels and cattery. I would definately recommend the cats protection league. If you go on their website their will be a local branch with phone number. The cats will be fully vaccinated and spayed/nuteured before you re-home (unless they are too young)

Thank you, that's definitely a good place to start! Unfortunately there's nothing in the local papers at the moment (dogs only, grrr) but I'm willing to wait a bit longer...
