Our government is neither protecting nor practising democracy in the true sense of the term. They are just playing scapegoat according to their need to apparently practising it or denying it. It's sad state of affairs!

Democracy is an impossible thing until the power is shared by all, but let not democracy degenerate into mobocracy. Democracy is not a state in which people act like sheep Evolution of democracy is not possible if we are not prepared to hear the other side. The spirit of democracy cannot be imposed from without. It has to come from within. My notion of democracy is that under it the weakest should have the same opportunity as the strongest. Intolerance, discourtesy and harshness are taboo in all good society and are surely contrary to the spirit of democracy. Corruption and hypocrisy ought not to be inevitable products of democracy, as they undoubtedly are today. These are the words of Mahathma with the great vision. We and our children are not introduced to this great soul properly by the politicians who became leaders because of him.Sad.

It's my pleasure Mimpi.I never can forget what Einstein has said about Mahathma. "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth". I get goose pimples every time I remember these words.

This... peeves me a little and it is not your fault so please don't take it that way. The United States of America is NOT NOT NOT a Democracy. It is a Federalist Republic. Just as a quick example... We don't use 'popular votes' to elect a president we use 'electoral votes'. In 2000 GORE won the popular vote Bush: 50,460,110 Gore: 51,003,926 But Bush became president because he had more ELECTORAL VOTES Bush:271 Gore:266 We can see the same happening right now with the race to see who becomes the presidential candidates... republicans even have 'winner take all' states. Michigan and Florida didn't even count for the Democrats. We are not a democracy and I don't know of one country in the whole world that is a TRUE democracy. UK -- constitutional monarchy Liberia -- republic France -- republic Spain -- parliamentary monarchy Canada -- constitutional monarchy that is also a parliamentary democracy and a federation Australia -- federal parliamentary democracy If you find one please let me know Thanks Zelo

With a billion people, the Republic of India is the world's largest democracy. With a population nearly four times that of the United States, India modeled its government on the British parliamentary system.

I think we practice democracy in the states because I feel free here. I lived in a communism country when I was a young girl and I felt like I was in prision. Democracy might not be perfect ,but so far is better than anything out there.

Protecting the democray is in the hands of voters. Voters are in the hands of politicians Politicians are under the control of money power. Under such situations Government left with no alternative except to practise it to protect the democracy.
