Did you witnessed anyone shop lifting? I did. Few times already. Usually at the supermarket. And food is what they usually shoplifted.
My heart cries for them. Maybe they have no food nor money to buy food. So they were forced to stole it from the supermarket. Unlucky to some, they were caught.

I did, two years ago. And it was New Year's Eve. I was at a local supermarket when suddenly there was a little commotion going on near the exit. What I saw was a small boy of maybe 10 years old and his mother. The owner of the supermarket had put several spy cameras all over the store because of the numerous attempts of shoplifting.
So, he caught one that day. And as it turned out, the boy stole a pack of bread. He was trembling and crying but no matter how hard his mother was begging the owner to have pity on him, the owner still didn't relent. He called the police.
I heard the boy's mother trying to explain to the owner that they don't have anything to eat. So, even she knows that stealing is not right, she allowed her son to do it anyway. Because they are hungry. The more that the mother was trying to explain for what her son has done, the more angry the owner was. He told her in a loud voice, enough for everyone at the store to hear, that what a perfect role model she was to her son. No wonder he was like that.
When he said those words, the mother didn't say anything anymore. But I couldn't forget the way she looked that day.

Empty stomach pushes a lot to steal food - even it is really bad. How sad.

i've heard about sho lifting going on at the local grocery store, I haven't seen it happen yet but they say it's a growing problem there. To me stealing is stealing weither you do it as the result of a mental illness or just to get buy it is wrong and those caught should be punished.

I also feel sorry for people who out of desperation feel a need to steal, but to eat, rather than starve, I would always turn a blind eye, especially in big supermarkets because they make soooo much profit that a tin of beans or a few groceries wouldn't make any difference to them, but it will make a great difference to those who are hungry and haven't got enough money for food. Sorry but I say good luck to them, I have more time and sympathy for them than the owners of the big shops etc..

Your feelings is very much understandable. What will these owners will loose if the "bad" guys will be getting just a "little" of their bulk stocks of food.

I have never seen any actual shoplifting. I get angry at them actually because they choose to do it and for being caught. If they do something illegal, they should be sharp enough not to get caught. HOwever, its comes down to choice. One always has a choice. They could scavenge if we look at the worst scenario. There is money too in garbage and i wonder why they didnt do that because if i happen to be in their position, i would certainly do it. I am angry because they choose to be lazy and steal instead.
