My advice is go with MacBook or MacBook pro's stay away from PC's man, they always seem to be trouble. Exploding batteries, crappy OS. So many issues and never any good news. I have had my MacBook for almost a year, and I had a MacBook Pro handed down from my boss before that that was four years old and lasted until I accidentally dropped it onto a concrete floor, it lasted actually 3 months after that, but never really opperated at peak efficiency, before that I had a 4 year old MacBook handed down from my the person I replaced and it opperated fine too, still does, just upgraded. If you insist on a PC I prefer Dell to Sony only because for the most part their support is better.

Dell is definitely cheaper than Sony... But in terms of reliability, Japanese products are generally better....Although they are not cheap either..

My daughter got an acer with vista in september. It has a long battery life and she is using it for her science fair project. However I hate vista and would rather it have been an xp. I have a dell PC and have no real problems with it. It is an XP.

well i dont know about either of those but i have a Toshiba that i LOVE had it a year now and its been my best friend! Just got my Daughter a Compaq and so far its been great!! she loves it! jsut go with what u need and memory u need without all the hype getting too much is a waste of money and too little well.... I just made sure it had the memory they needed AND most of all the dvd/WR drive to burn and play CD's/DVD's that was a must! lol GOOD LUCK! ( and windows Vista) * just my two cents from my experiance* XX
