I was always very much into gathering quotes and phrases when in college. My favorite past-time used to be reading my collection of quotes, it always used to amaze me how people could think of such wise things to write ! My Favorite quote till date remains : " He who does not love you may make you laugh But He who loves you may make you cry".

My mother used to have a book of quotes and a lot of quotes used to stick in my mind. This is one of my favorites I think this is from shakespeare: "Golden girls and boys all must; as chimney sweeps return to dust" Cheers! :)

There is a quote in our regional language-actually a famous poet has written it in one of his film songs and I am translating it for you. In fact I know many of his songs by rote. This is an example. It goes this way'There are millions of people who are less fortunate than you.Derive solace from that thought and count yourself lucky.'This has appealed to me right from when I was young and helped me maintain a great degree of contentment in life.I love these profound words. Then there are a number of couplets written by a great sage. The mind is its own place and can make a Hell of Heaven and Heaven of Hell'Milton. -This is another one which I would never forget. 'Never argue with a fool, he would drag you down to his level and beat you with his expertise at it.' Nature has enough for man's need, but not for his greed.' I will get back later if I recall other important ones.

The quote about the fool is by Bernard Shaw.

I agree with you wholeheartedly when you say that the beauty of the quotation is lost when we translate it.

i especially like the one with the fool.. i totally agree with it.. we actually have one in our vernacular also just like that.. translated, it goes "fighting with a fool means that your lower than his level" or something like that.. it's hard to translate because foreign language doesn't really encompass the thoughts expressed in a nativte tongue.. ;p

Hi there! The quote that's stuck into my head is "The wheel weaves as the wheel wills". I read it from the Whee of Time series. I believe that there are somethings that we have no control over. There are some things that we cannot change no matter how hard we try to so the best thing to do is to accept it, cope with it, and go on living.

i agree, i think no matter how hard we try to affect things, sometimes, we're just too small to do so.. but othertimes, even if we are not aware of it, our little actions touch the universe..

one from my english bood that i'v learned today: live one day at a time... just throw all stressful things out of your mind and let tomorrow take care of itself... but who on earth can do every day like that? there're too many responsibility with us that we should take on...

yeah, i think it's worse than just mere procrastination. there's a quote i know, "cross the bridge when you get there". i think it means that you should worry about the problem when you are in the position already that you can do something about it. it may not be the perfect way to go but still, it keeps a person from going insane. lol. maybe living one day at a time can also mean to make the most out of everyday and not worry so much that every day turns to this endless bitter world with no hope. but i think you're right, not every one has the luxury to just stand back and let life take its course...

the golden rule, very cliche yet very relevant, lol.. and about the jumping off the bridge quote, i think i have something that resembles that.. if you laugh, i laugh too. if you cry, i cry too. if you go, i'll go with you. if you jump over the bridge, i'm going to miss you... harhar.. or something like that.. hehe,,

Oh and another one is one that my mom sometimes said to me, "If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you jump too." I hated when she said that to me LOL...

one of the quotes that I like is from the movie Chasing Liberty; Anna Foster (Mandy Moore): Because the things you're scared of are usually the most worthwhile.

maybe that's why it's so scary.. because it means something to us.. it has value to us..
