Anyone ever had an issue with a landlord. My last landlord (I now own my house) never fixed anything and I have yet to hear back from him about my security deposit even though I moved out over a month ago.

We have constsnt issues with our current landlord. Last winter he put in a new furnace becasue ours stopped working. He said he would be back in a week to get rid of the old one and guess what... it's still in our basement. Last fall we had a leak in our bathroom ceiling. The water built up and a piece of the ceiling fell down. He came to look at it, fixed where the water had come in and wanted to wait and see if there was any more water getting in. Well he finally sent someone to patch the hole in March. The guy said he would be back to sand the drywall when the mud dried and he never came back. Last week our basement flooded with about 6 inces of water. The landlord came and pumped it out and mentioned that he would be back on saturday to get rid of the old furnace. Big surprise, he didn't show up. The worst part is that he has his own construction company. Its' ridiculous. Luckily we are planning on buying our own house soon.

The place we were renting had a leaky basement (full of mold) and a roof that was beginning to leak. The furnace was the original furnace put in in the 70s and the landlord refused to service it. That's why we ended up paying almost $400/month for heating costs.

Our landlord told us when we moved in ere that the gas bill should be pretty reasonable because he had just insulated. With our old furnace it was at the lowest $320 a month and the house was still not that warm. Now since the old one blew and was replaced it has been lower, thankfully.

I was actually glad ours didn't break. Knowing our landlord, he probably would have taken a month to replace it. We had an issue during the summer with the central air and it was almost fall by the time he got around to getting it fixed.

I once rented a mobile home, after we moved in we found many things wrong with it. the biggest was the bathroom floor was unsafe, felt like you would fall through at any minute. We moved out after 2 months of no effort on his part to fix. When he refused to pay back security I told him I was calling an inspector and would have the home inspected, to which the next day i had my deposit in my hand.

I'm probably going to be doing something similar if I haven't heard from him by the end of the week. Wisconsin law requires him to either repay the full security deposit or give me an itemized list of deductions within 21 days or I can sue him for double the amount. It's been 30 days.

I think they need to be stricter about who is allowed to rent property. Maybe make them get certified first.

In every State both the landlord and tenant have rights. In some States, the landlord has two weeks in which to make a claim on the security deposit. He/she must notify the tenant during that time period that a claim is being made and in what amount and the reason. In those States if the landlord does not make a claim within the specified time period he/she must refund all of the deposit. You can visit your local clerk of the courts and inquire about how it is in your State. And you may be able to file against your former landlord for the deposit as well as interest for the lease period. And you can include the cost of filing as well as court costs.
