It can be anything that is unusual to you or surprising. My friend thought stuffed celery was unusual because she had never had any. I also thought drying herbs in a microwave was surprising. I thought they would burn or come out rubbery. What unusual or surprising recipes have you found in cookbooks? Why did you think they were unusual or surprising?

I found a recipe online a while back for Lullaby Muffins. The article boasted that the mixture of ingredients was a sure fire way to make you sleepy and rest well at night. I tried them out ans much to my surprise they really did work!

Really? Wow! I wonder what ingredients make you go to sleep? Have you figured out what makes you sleepy in them?
That is different and surprising, isn't it? Take care

Just went there, cool, according to the article above it, bananas and honey are two of the ingredients that help you fall asleep. Actually they had a pretty long list of all kinds of ingredients that can help you sleep above the recipe. Thanks and take care

I'm not sure what ingredients make you sleepy, but I think its a combination of them. Here is the recipe if anyone would like to see if they work for you like they do for me. Scroll to the middle of the page to find it.

I found mole surprising because it contains chocolate. It is eaten with meat dishes. Actually it is quite good.
Mole Sauce
1/2 cups chicken broth
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup finely chopped onion
3 tablespoons chopped garlic
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped (Hershey Special Dark, it has a sweetness that mellows the sauce)
Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium low heat.
Add onion, garlic, oregano, cumin and cinnamon.
Cover and cook until onion is almost tender, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.
Mix in chili powder and flour, stir for 3 minutes.
Gradually whisk in chicken broth.
Increase heat to medium high.
Boil until reduced, about 35 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat.
Whisk in chocolate; season with salt and pepper, if desired.
Mmm now I am getting hungry.

This is neat, about a month ago, our newspaper had a Mole recipe in it and I thought chocolate in it was interesting, too. But a friend of mine makes chili without tomato sauce (we're both can't have tomatoes) and there is a little tiny bit of cocoa in that. Take care
