Have you ever heard of a lingual thryroid?

My friends daughter has a thryoid condition. Her doctor said her thyroid is on the back of her tounge. I looked in my daughters mouth because for a few days her mouth was bothering her and I saw something really weird in there looked sort of like a mini tounge sticking up in the back of her throat behind her tounge. I was kind of freaked out so I took her to the ER because there was no doctor open and I asked if it could be her thyroid and the doctor acted like I was so stupid because he said its not possible to have a thyroid on the back of the tounge. The nurse was giving me a weird look to and I told them how my friends daughter has that and he said its not possible. It ticked me off because I know its rare but it is possible since I even looked it up on the internet and its called a lingual thyroid. What is in the back of my daughters mouth is not her thyroid though I can tell that after looking it up. My father looked in his medical books and said its the thing that closes off the esophogus and hers sticks up higher I guess. I'll attach a picture and you can see if you can see it. Its hard to take a picture inside someones mouth hehe so it might be to dark to see. Its below the uvula behind the tounge.
