How do you say it?

I know everyone says things different but I was wondering how most people say numbers. For example how would you say 2,300? Would you say two thousand three hundered or would you say twenty three hundred? Is there a correct way of saying it or are they both right? I think it depends on what I'm talking about on how I say it. If I'm talking about money I probably would say twenty three hundred because it makes it sound lower than two thousand. I'm not real sure though if it really matters to me. Do you have a prefrence? Please explain.

I never thought about it before! I think if I want to be very clear, especially having a younger child just learning math, I would say two thousand three hundred but casually in a conversation probably twenty three hundred as for some reason is doesn't sound like it is as big of an amount this way - make sense? I got so confused in Germany as they say some numbers backwards to what we would. They would say one and twenty instead of twenty one, made my brain hurt!!!

That would probably make my brain hurt also kimberlylynn. It's hard to do something different when you have learned to do it a certain way. They would probably throw me out of Germany...lol. Have a great day.

I am more comfortable saying two thousand three hundred than twentythree hundred. Guess it’s a habit and I find it more convenient and clear to explain and understand.

I've learnt British English (Queen's English) at school and I'm used to the two thousand three hundred. But now with lots of people moving back to India from the US, I find the twenty three hundred is the common way to say it. My son's school it is still two thousand three hundred. So, depending on WHO I am speaking to, I use both ways.

Well, i would say two thousand three hundred... even if i am referring to an amount of money or not... my teacher taught me that is the proper way... but i would oftern hear american's say twenty three hundred... but then... as long as they get the point... i am content with that...

Really, I don't know what the correct way is, but, I go by the commma! If it has the comma between the 2 and the three (2,300), I say two thousand, three hundred, and if it doesn't have the comma,(2300), I say twenty three hundred! That's all I know to do!

As a writer we are supposed to write the number out so it would be two thousand three hundred. But many just write it 2,300. But as to speaking it I think it depends on what you grew up with and were taught to say. I usually say two thousand three hundred.

I will say it as two thousand three hundred. I am use to it than twenty three hundred. And besides, that is the normal or regular way to say it here. I seldom hear twenty three hundred.

Yup...American English is Twenty Three Hundred....British English is Two Thousand Three Hundred... For me, I follow British English... I think one reason is American wants to make it sound big....Twenty Three sounds bigger than Two Thousand Three Hundred... And the best is when we talk about One Billion...An American Billion is lesser than a British Billion! An American Billion is only 1,000,000,000 while a British Billion is 1,000,000,000,000 So which would you follow? ;)

Both ways of saying it are correct. If I am not mistaken, one is a normal saying for the British, while for the other is a normal saying for the Americans. In my country, we all say two thousand three hundred. Since I've been brought up to say it this way, this is my preference on how I say it. I would feel weird if I were to say twenty three hundred because I don't normally say that. I hope that explains it! =)

I would say in the big way like one thousand three hundred. I don't know why though. Maybe because I was taught this way.
