How do you wake up in the morning - with or without an alarm clock?

I have always been a morning person. I guess I can blame it on the three years I use to be a newspaper carrier in my teen years. Even when I went through my partying years, I would wake up early, then if I had the opportunity I would crawl back in bed for a nap. Now that I am a responsible parent, LOL. I am still a morning person but for the past three years, I do not need an alarm clock to wake me up. I wake up from 3:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. every morning without fail. Some mornings I can dose but never really get back to sleep, other mornings I just hop right out of bed ready to start the day. I started seeing a new doctor and he is concerned about my lack of sleep. I am suppose to call him today and he might prescribed something for me but then I will loose my quiet time in the morning, so I am torn on what to do. If I don't have to work, I try to lay down for an hour in the afternoon but if I do have to work, then I am up until 11 p.m. So is your body set to wake up every morning without an alarm clock, or are you a button pushing snoozer?

All my freinds think I am a morning person and me too:). I was a good girl in the eye of my parents and teachers from my childhood. Since the first day I went to school, I was afraid of being late, so getting up early grew on me soon. I also set my cellphone alarm every morning, but I always have to cancle it before I get up for its noise. But sometimes it do work for me!:)

I also hate being late. I would rather be early than late. It drives my husband crazy because he use to be the complete opposite always late. He has come around and now shows up on time. LOL

luckily, my boyfreind is a morning person too. But at the weekend, I really want to sleep a little longer, he always gets up on time for the NBA match. I often can not understand, why are so many boys or men crazy for the balls matches?

If I really need to wake up, I will always set 3 alarms. They will be placed at different places to increase the possibility of me waking up in time without switching them all off and going to sleep. But when you get into a routine like school or work everyday, chances are high that your body clock will be functioning quite well.

I remember as a kid my mom having to set two alarm clocks to make sure she woke up, this was before the days of snooze alarms.

A horn? Oh my!!! I can't even imagine!!!! I remember in my younger years, if I had been out late the night before, my dad would put on some of his blarin' jazz music from Bill Black, yes, I can still remember the name of the artist, to wake me up. A hangover and then a headache from the music surely didn't mix. LOL

Cool, I have never heard the expression "freesleeper" before. I guess that's what I should call my husband because he can sit down and in a minute be sound a sleep. LOL

I find that when I need to get up for work, I struggle to get out of bed but when its my day off and I can lie in as long as I want, I wake up early and find it difficult to go back to sleep. Whereas in my late teens I was up about 7am every morning (except weekends) think this is due to having to be up for school and breakfast was at 8am!! Hope the doctor is able to sort out whether you are lacking sleep or not!!

well my brain does have a clock inside like everybody else’s but nowadays I cant take chance, what with my son’s school starting really early. I have to wake up around 5:15am and in the morning rush, even 10minutes here and there is a big deal really. So to be doubly sure (sometimes the alarm clock runs out of battery bang in the middle of the night) I have told my husband to set the mobile alarm too! So no escaping darling….day starts at 5:15 sharp!

Short answer: yes I have woken up every morning. Long answer... I have an internal clock to where all I have to do is tell myself what time to wake up and I wake up. It is EXTREMELY rare that I use an alarm clock and even more rare that the alarm clock is what actually wakes me up. Thanks Zelo

I wake up without an alarm clock. I read once that if you visualize the clock and the time that you want to get up and keep that image in your head while you are going to sleep that it will work to wake you. It does work, well at least it does for me.

I, personally, have to have two alarms to wake me up. I am so not a morning person, but usually my daughter wakes up before my alarms go off, but if she doesn't it takes two to get me up and out of bed. LOL! I hate morning time and would love it if i could sleep until at least 10 or so, but that's impossible with a two year old and two boys that have to be at school at 8:30. thanks for posting and God bless

I actually set the alarm on my cell phone. I am usually up before it goes off.Its just a safty net.I start work at 5am so I am a morning person. I usually get to bed around 11pm and get up at 4am.I set the alarm at 4:15am.I actually asked the doctor one time how come all these people I know need 8-10 hours of sleep and I get 4-5.He said its just the type of person I am.My body can function on a small amount. He also said I get good sound sleep that makes a difference.I do sleep good usually I'm out but when I wake up 4-5 hurs later I'm wide awake.I find it I roll over and dose off and on.Then I have that hung over feeling the rest of the day.

I actually have a combination of both plus one other one. I have to wake up at 5 in the morning to take my medicine, so my alarm goes off at 5, but it doesn't always wake me up, so my husband wakes up to my alarm too. He wakes me up to take my medicine. I go back to sleep after taking my meds and then I naturally wake up around 8 - 8:30

Definitely the latter - i keep pushing the snooze button over and over and... I'm a night owl but because of my job I have to force myself to bed at a reasonable hour every night (around midnight), so I'm not too tired when the alarm clock(s) go off.

Where is my phone???? yes I use my cell phone for an alarm clock! LOL and yes... I love that snooze button! LOL actually my phone has five alarms you can set.. and I usually have them all set! LOL you know... the first one is to call the school district bus garage and get the weather! LOL well to find out if there is a two hour delay or no school... then I go back to sleep for an hour... then one every 15 minutes til the kids have to be out the door! Pretty sad huh!!! Have a great day!! :0)

On some occasions, I will end up waking up a few minutes before the alarm goes off, but for the most part, I usually do not wake up until the alarm goes off. I hate that sometimes too, especially since I sometimes have the habit of not waking up until well after the alarm goes off.

My dad is the exact same way. Its like he can program a time in his brain that he wants to wake up, and will wake up at almost the exact minute he was aiming for..and I might add, he has always been an extremely chipper morning person! Me on the otherhand...I tend to wake up before the alarm...an hour or so before it goes off which I find very frustrating bc I would prob lay there for an hour just thinking about how I only have one more hour to sleep! LOL So I'm usually forcing myself out of bed..and unable to function properly until I've had some coffee!! I only wish I could be more of a morning person..

I am an alarm clock person. If it goes off and I don't hear it (which has happened) then I am in trouble ok. I am basically a morning person and love it when God has blessed me with another day, however, my alarm clock is my second way of getting up. My brother wakes up every morning on his own and I am like, I can't do that.

There are people in the world capable of waking up without an alarm clock? And hopping out of bed ready to go without pushing the snooze button 3-4 times? Wow. I am NOT a morning person.

I became a morning person due to my job. I get to work at around 5:00am each day as this gives me three solid hours of time to myself before my staff walk in the door. This works well for me as I get enough work done before 8:00am that I don't have to stay too late in the evening therefore I can get home and spend some time with my 5y/o son before he needs to go to bed. Now I automatically wake up at 3:45am each day. On the week-ends (or when I am on holidays which is now, yippee!!) I seem to be able to sleep through to about 6:30am when my little 3 foot human alarm clock comes running in to my bedroom and waking me up. Mornings are by far the best time of day as your mind is clear and you are refreshed from a good night sleep.
