I wrecked my car...

I'd finally gotten rid of the old Mustang and had a really nice little car. It ran great and didn't have a scratch on it...plus the engine had been rebuilt 2 years ago so it ran excellent. I managed to have it all of 2 days shy of 2 weeks and I hit a deer. The front is smashed up. I'd need a new hood, headlight, grill and fender not to mention whatever is bent up under the hood (I can't open the hood to see because it's buckled under too badly). S/o says he isn't going to fix it because the new parts will cost more than he paid for the whole car and he doesn't have time to do the work himself and doesn't want to pay someone else to do it. I have to say that I'm VERY 'mad' at him because I'm not sure mylot will allow me to use the words I'm really feeling. I priced a headlight today at the only place locally that seems to have parts for my car and just the headlight from there will cost $75.00. So I can easily admit that the cost to fix the car isn't practical when compared to the price we paid for it ($300) but it was a lot nicer than the typical $300 car. So I'm venting a little... Have any of you had to give up a really nice car over something completely stupid like this?

A deer - Cute or deadly? You decide.
Actually, I did almost the same thing! When I was in college, my grandmother gave me her car, a Plymouth Reliant. It was in pristine condition. I had it two months and then coming home for Thanksgiving break, I hit a big deer and totaled it. The insurance company wouldn't fix it as it would cost more than it was worth. They gave me 1200 bucks. I went home and bought a Mustang.

So sorry to hear about your car wreck. Those darn deers! At least you are okay. Yeah, I had a car, and then the guy I was dating at the time wrecked it. At least I did have full coverage on it, and it went towards the car that I am now driving. I just wasn't prepared to pay $230 a month for five years. I still have two years of payments on it.

I'm so sorry to read this! I know how you feel, although for me it wasn't a car I'd just gotten but a car I'd had for over 11 years and which probably would have lasted 11 more if this jerk hadn't run a stop sign and hit me, then pushed me into a brand new parked Cadillac. I was actually able to drive it away but because of the age of the car and the high mileage on it the insurance company totaled it and refused to fix it. I was heartbroken and we weren't able to come remotely close to replacing that car with the little bit we got from the insurance. It's been 14 years ago now so I forget the exact amount but it really made me mad! I'm so sorry for your situation because you were lucky to find a good car for $300 and it's such a shame this had to happen to you. Annie

Hi Foxy. I know how you feel about hitting a deer. I hit one 2 weeks after I got my car. Mine was fixable, thank goodness. I would have been so heartbroken had it been cheaper to "junk" it. I can totally understand your frustration. I'm really glad you are safe though.
