Anyone know this song? It was written for "Gangs Of New York". It was nominated but didn't win the oscar for best song. Shame, it's a very good song. Any thoughts?

i absolutely love this song! it's one of my all time favourite songs -U2 or otherwise. i remember hearing it at the end of "gangs of new york" which my friends and i only went to see because the movie we wanted to see was sold out (can't even remember which movie that was) and i made them stay through the credits because i was just so in awe of it's haunting beauty...and still am to this day...

Couldn't agree with you more. I also remember seeing "Gangs Of New York" in theaters, and staying during the credits to hear that wonderful song. Thank you for your response.

it's a very good song and well performed by U2. isn't it ironic - the song is all about America yet the band who sang the theme song is Irish? :)
