I can't get a good night sleep!

Please tell me I"m not the only one that is going through this experience? My 7 month old boxer dog wakes me up starting sometimes at 3am. This morning he started his whining at 4:30am. When we go to bed we put him in his crate so we don't have to wake up to a huge mess of chewed up couches and other things that I"m sure he would get into. I can't seem to get a good night's rest at all. This is occuring every night. I find it is putting a lot of stress on my relationship because when I can't get a good night's sleep, I'm cranky and I tend to take it out on my hubby. As of right now I have this dog for sale because I can't take it anymore. I am willing to part with him for good. My health and family matters are way more important to me than a dog. I do have a cat, but he doesn't make so much noise and at least he lets me sleep! I work a lot of night shifts and that is hard as it is. Not to mention this dog won't let me sleep for long during the day either and it's really hard to do a stretch of nightshifts when you're exhausted from not being able to sleep. I don't know if I"m being way to harsh, or is this normal for a person? I'm at my wits end with the dog! Any suggestions?

Have you tried putting the dog somewhere where you cannot hear it? That is what I would do. I wouldn't ger rid of it yet.

Even if you got him a dog house and put straw in it?

A friend of mine suggested that, and I'm not sure how a boxer dog would handle that. My dog has really really short hair and he's all muscle. That's a really good suggestion. I'm not great at carpentry work but my hubby is, I'll have to see what he says maybe this weekend we can go get some supplies thank you

There's really no where you can't hear in this house weather it's in the basement or on the same floor, it's still loud. I would put it outside but this dog is not made for outside weather in the winter anyway. Maybe in the summer but it's too cold here and I don't think he would be alive the next day. Thank you for the advice

your pup is board and lonley and more than likley is confused with your schedule. he should have already grown out of the whining stage. i have worked with amimals for the past 8 years. if you are going to keep him, then he needs alot of play time with you and very long walks before bed time. toys that you can put treats in are good for crate time. but if you get rid of him dont feel bad about it maybe this is not the right time for a dog

You're right I don't think we are ready for a dog, I didn't realize that it would tie into our busy life schedule. It's hard to concentrate on something that is another life but not human. I think someone else could give it a better life and have more patience with him. Thank you, in the meantime I will try to keep him unbored and throw some toys and treats in his crate with him.

adding an animal is a big strain on any kind of relationship ( home/work ) my husband brought home a dog thst i was not ready for., but with the training that i had done it all turned out ok., at least in my eyes.,the dogs are my life they come before any one else and my husband now knows this, it was his fault that he brought home this beautiful puppy I had been without an animal for about 2 years even though I worked for the humane society for years and then he saw this puppy it looked like an 8 week old pit bull puppy and then after it turned 12 weeks old and i looked at it's teeth too esimate it's age I discovered that it was actualy an 8 week old great dane /pit cross, 6 months later we rescued my 5 year old bassette hound.

Some new pets from the block really are noisy but that's just from the start. When our new dog arrived in my parent's house, she was too noisy too until late in the morning and all day she would bark even if we already feed her. Maybe because she's just feeling kinda weird with the place. Right now, thankfully there's no any dog barks around and it's 3:13am by the way hehehe.. Anyway, why don't you buy some mouth strap so your dog can't bark, just put it during at night.

That sounds like a good plan on my tired days. Other days which is less often, when I've had some rest I'm in a better mood and his whining doesn't bother me that much. I think I'm just going to keep my dog up for sale and it will be less stressful for everyone thank you for your thoughts :)

He is just a pup which means he acts the same as a seven month old baby.Have you tried giving him something with your smell on it?Put it into his crate with him at night. If you can put up with it another few months he will probably stop. There is nothing so awful as constant noise stopping you from sleeping so i feel very sorry for you.If you had time you cold try tiring him out in the evenings, longs walks or let him out in the garden to run about.good luck.

Thank you superbren. I appreciate the advice, and for now I will try putting something in his crate with him to try to shut him up at night. When we let him outside, all he does is stand by the door because he wants to be let back inside. He doesn't have long hair and can't handle this Canadian weather right now so I can't have him out too long but I do try tiring him out when I can. Thanks again I will try leaving something with our scent on it

thank you for your reply, do you have pets that keep you up at night too?
