I love being a teacher, although in my country this job is relatively low-paying. Sometimes teaching becomes so difficult but I get by when I read inspirational quotes about teachers. Can you add some more to my list? "A good teacher is like a candle---it consumes itself to light the way for others." "A teacher affects eternity;he can never tell where his influence stops." Henry Adams "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires."--WIlliam Arthur Ward "The Lord God has givenme the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens--wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught." Isaiah 50:4

The only one I can think of at the moment is 'Those who care, teach.' Simple, but I have always liked it. If I come across more, I'll post again.

That's absolutely true! It's so short, but I think it summarizes everything about being a teacher.

A good teacher has been defined as an individual who can understand those who are not very good at explaining, and explain to those who are not very good at understanding.--Dwight D. Eisenhower The true aim of everyone who aspires to be a teacher should be, not to impart his own opinions, but to kindle minds.--FW Robertson

The statement Dwight Eisenhower said is really very fitting---I'm an ESL teacher and I often have to try to understand what my students say in broken English, and I often have to explain things in the simplest way possible. Thanks!

This is a nice topic my friend... I do have some in my notebook... "An understanding heart is everything in a teacher, and cannot be esteemed highly enough. One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child." (Carl Gustav Jung) "The teacher must derive not only the capacity, but the desire, to observe natural phenomena. The teacher must understand and feel her position of observer: the activity must lie in the phenomenon." (Maria Montessori) "The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself." (Edward Bulwer-Lytton) I hope you like my contribution..

This is very much appreciated, thanks. Every week, I write some teacher-related quotes on our office whiteboard, and all the teachers get bits of inspiration from them.
