Anti abortionist in Georgia are pushing for a "Human Life Amendment" to the state constitution. This amendment would give "personhood" to fetuses.
In order to pass the amendment must have support from the majority of Legislature and Georgia voters; however it must get past the House Judiciary first.

Whilst I approve of the immediate consequences of such a Bill, it is, I believe, ill-conceived. A fetus is not a person, its entitlement to life is dependent on it being human not on its person-hood.

But clumsy language use leads, not only to clumsy thinking, but confusion. Besides there is a very important issue that hangs on this. Maybe it will come out in this debate

I really don't see anyone arguing that 'person hood' does not mean human being. However, the reality is, the amendment is not likely to pass anyway.

Fetus have a metabolism and DNA, which biologically means they are both alive and they are human.
"viability" is a concept that was scientifically discredited as soon as DNA started being used to define a species.
It's ironic, people will quote science to keep all sorts of things from being taught in schools, but when it comes to abortion, they act as if science never existed.
The fact is, legal abortion on demand has killed more human beings than the Nazi Haulocaust, Slavery and all our wars combined... yet people who claim to be "humane" defend the "right" even if it means jamming an instrument into a fetus' neck in the process of birth.
Sick, isn't it.
The Georgia Constitional Amendment will have to be decided by the Supreme Court though, since no state has the authority to cirmcumvent Supreme Court decisions... even if they are they had no Constitutional backing).

Exactly! The message from them is clear... Killing murderers is bad, killing rapists is bad, killing terrorists is bad... Killing babies is a "right". Bah!

Oh dear...I know opinions vary on the abortion issue, but what about women's rights?

Yes, the right to life, surely outweighs any other rights

That statement can easily be reversed..what about the baby's most basic right to live?

I would like to see a Personhood law pass. The only problem with the Georgia Amendment is they loaded it down with problems. It will not pass.
If they had not added the wording about Capital punishment, then it would have stood a better chance of passing. If someone wanted to work on the wording of the Capital Punishment laws of the State, they should have sumitted it in a separate Amendment. Instead of lumping it in with this one.
They should have never included the question of birth control in this Amendment either. That will most likely kill the Amendment if the Capital Punishment bit doesn't kill it first.
People are so used to tagging all kinds of stuff onto bills and amendments, that I don't think they really stop and think about what they are doing. Either that or someone did it so the Amendment would be guaranteed to fail.

Yes, I agree. Capitol punishment and birth controll should not have been in the same amendment.
