Ebay boycott.

I was notified of an ebay boycott that is to last from the 18th til the 25th. This boycott is taking place due to ebay raising their fees once again and them making it to where sellers cannot leave buyers negative feedback. A buyer can still leave negative feedback though and ruin a seller's reputation if they choose to. Has anyone else heard about this boycott? Are you participating?

I haven't been notified of any such boycott but I did just get an email from eBay telling me they were LOWERING their prices on final value fees and giving free upgrade features like gallery. But if there is a boycott I am participating only because I have nothing left to sell until I go back up in my attic next month. lol

I got the message on myspace. I am not selling anything right now nor have I in months. I have really switched to ecrater. Maybe they are lowering their fees b/c of the boycott. It has been going on for 2 days already.

Ebay marketed this as a fee decrease, and yes they lowered listing fees a few pennies. However, if you scroll down and look at the other changes; they raised final value fees significantly. They marketed this change in a shamelessly deceptive way and should be boycotted. Tsk Tsk; shame on you Ebay!

I had my account hacked into once also. It didn't go so far that I had to open a new one though. Sorry for your troubles. You should try ecrater. They are free.

Yes, I am a seller. Which was a powerseller but will lose that status soon lol. But either way, I do ebay as a hobby so I don't let it bother me too much.

I used to sell a lot. We are talking thousands a month. I don't want to pay those fees tho.

But do you sell? IF you do, then your fees are gonna increase. That is a bad change.

I haven't heard of a boycott and since you heard about it on myspace, it's probably just a rumor that's being spread around and copy and pasted onto bulletins. Most of those things you see on there aren't really true. But sometimes they are. I got an email from ebay saying they were LOWERING their seller fees which I personally thought was a good thing. The old fees just stacked up way too high and it got to the point that I didn't want to sell anything on ebay if it wasn't going to make me at least fifty bucks because it's just not very profitable after all of the effort. Oh well. There really isn't much you can do I guess. Hopefully ebay will see the error of their ways and make things better for their users!

The person I heard it from on myspace has dedicated her whole profile to it. She has a banner as her pic now. It says boycott feebay and the dates. I am sure it is not a rumor. If you read thru this entire discussion you will see what I am talking about. They are lowering listing fees. But the final value fee is increasing to 8.75%.

Apparently Ebay is lowering their listing fees but raising the fee for items that sell (at least the ones sold for less than $25.) Isn't selling the item the whole point of listing it? Between Ebay's fees and PayPal's fees (also owned by Ebay) I will be happy to join the boycott. Unless you sell a large volume or high priced item the profits just are not worth the fees anymore.

It is most definately NOT a rumor.. there is a worldwide boycott that I hope extends beyond the week and that the people who have found other venues to sell on.. stay with the other venues. I am a hobby seller. Loudfrog.com is PERFECT for me

I know people involved in this boycott and they have started using onlineauctions.com and ioffer.com among many others. These are still paid sites but tons lower and they seem to be selling well at these 2 sites. I have bought some stuff from both and I can say I have been pleased. They are worth looking into. :)

Greedbay has done a LOT of horrible things this time around. All under the hoes that no one will notice their sneaky, underhanded business practices. I am a FOrMER greedyfeepay seller. I started my boycott as soon as I heard about the changes they were making. I have since started selling on Loudfrog.com It is not an auction site, it is a store site. BUT it is free, the ONLY fee is a 1% final value fee no matter how much you sell it for. Loudfrog is getting increased traffic, my store has had 500 visitors since I opened it at the beginning of FEB 08. There are MANY ex-feebay sellers on Loudfrog. Come check it out! I am greedbayrefugee http://www.loudfrog.com/seller.aspx?UserID=26148 come check me out.. snoop around the site.. you might even find the thing you didn't even know you wanted

What is loudfrog? I have never heard of it. I am using ecrater which is free as well and a store site and not auctions. That's great. I will have to check it out. I haven't really been paying a lot of attention to my selling lately. I have been focusing more on my vacation biz. I'm really excited about it. I have actually been spending a lot of time newtworking on myspace.

I just read your other responses. Ebay had better watch out if they want to stay in business. I have bought and sold on ebay. I really wanted to make a living on ebay. Its near impossible these days to get your foot in the door. As sellers our reputation is everything, we do our best to provide excellent customer service. Some buyers will leave negative just to be rotten, thats not fair. This boycott might really hurt ebay. I did get a notice that they were lowering some of the fees, but then raising some others. they have made so much money, they need to quit being so greedy. Greed will put them out of business. There are other places that you can sell stuff, people will go over to those sites and then what is ebay going to do.

I've been hearing little bits and pcs of whats goin on at Ebay and all the negative responses its getting but I'm not really up on the whole story...Ebay has raised their Sellers fees and changed how feedback works? When did this happen?? Is the change really that drastic?? It must be for ppl to be boycotting I guess....

Sellers won't be able to leave negative feedback and buyers still will.

Yes, I actually posted on mylot about it. I am boycotting Ebay this week in respect of it. I used to do alot of selling on ebay but the fees eat you alive. Now, they have increased their final value fees but marketed the changes as a fee decrease. They slightly decreased listing fees but snuck in the back door and raised the final value fees...substantially. They do business dirty, in my book. Not upfront about it. Very deceptive the way it was marketed.

Yes, it was. I am so glad that I was alerted to it too. I was watching some jeans that I was considering purchasing this week.

I heard about it too late. Ebay says they are raising the final value fees but for Powersellers they get reduced listing fees, free gallery and up to 15% off final value fees. Their fees are high but I looked into Amazon.com and that is much worse... but I think I'll check out ecrater! The worst part for sellers is actually not being able to leave negative feedback for buyers...that leaves the buyer no reason to work something out with the seller before leaving them negative feedback and it also opens the door for buyers who will not pay because you can't really do anything about it. Boycott or not, I think Ebay sellers will unite until the higher-ups in Ebay get tired of hearing it and reverse that rule.
