hi daisy, I think yoga is a holistic system of personal development and lifestyle. It improves our physical, mental and spiritual capacity. It consist of many elements i.e. meditation, physical and mental exercise, philosophy, mind control, diet maintaining, etc. But "yoga" that people generally know today is only one element of yoga, i.e. physical and mental exercise. It's called asanas or yoga postures. It's OK if yoga you are talking about here is these asanas. You will still get much benefit of that exercise. Yoga postures (asanas) should be done under guidance of a qualified teacher, especially for the beginners. Coz they are not only postures. There are certain conditions to guarantee it's optimal benefit.

First find a good teacher in the type of yoga you want to do. Books and dvds aren't that good because until you have a good understanding of your body, you won't know if you are doing the poses correctly, a good teacher will correct and guide you thro the poses. It is easy to hurt yourself, if you stretch to far so always listen to your body and if it hurts too much don't continue stretching, you must remember it takes some time for your body to stretch fully.

Hi, I like doing yoga too but I can't afford to enroll in yoga school... so what I did was... I bought yoga DVDs and jsut follow the routines that are being shown there. It's nice. I miss it because right now I dont have the time to do it. If you want I can give you the names of the DVDs that I bought.
