Yep! I went to the doc today and I really did tear my Achilles tendon. Have an appointment to see the surgeon. Odd thing was the doc today said the x-rays also show that I have had a few breaks in my foot (old breaks) and a lot of arthritis and calcification. I had no idea about the breaks.

Literally one of the worst things you can do to your body is tear an achillies. And if you actually tore it and not bruised it or stretched it you shouldn't even be able to walk. The other thing is that it takes FOREVER to heal. Just take it easy.. stay in front of your computer you always have your MyLot friends here! Thanks Zelo

Your foot should be in a boot so you can't over-compensate and pull ligaments in your lower leg or even break an ankle. The best thing to do... stay off it as much as possible... it's the only way it's going to heal. Thanks Zelo

funny, I feared I might do just that (break an ankle) when I tripped the other morning (son left his shoes at the end of the hallway) and went flying. Maybe my mother should have named me Grace!

It sure ain't comfortable.... it has been 10 days now and I expected the pain would have subsided by now :/ I am finding additional pain in other areas from the compensation I am having to make - like since the cast has my heel some 5 or 6 inches off the ground - I have to put a lot of strain on my knee - as well as my good ankle and hip. I so hesitate to take medications so am just taking extra strength aspirin they prescribed percoset but I have not taken any. it is a complete tear, so I am unable to lift my heel of the floor myself - the idea with the way the cast is set is that the ends will join together on their own. *shrug* have you done this to yourself as well?

I am glad you went in to have it checked out! Now you will have to keep us posted on when and if you have to have surgery! But at least you know now what's up!

Oh Modestah. I was so worried that you had torn your Achilles tendon by the symptoms that you described. I am so very sorry. Hubby did a complete tear of his years ago while playing racquetball. He had the surgery and was off his leg for 6 weeks. (this was all before I met him and also many years ago...medical care has advanced a lot since then!) I doubt yours was a complete tear or you wouldn't have been able to go this long! Keep us posted (pun intended) and God speed!

You called it CN! :) while the pain upon injury was intense and the next two days most uncomfortable - (last night was the first chance at transportation I had to get to the doctor's) I think you are right that it must not be a complete tear. Will wait to see what the surgeon says. For now they have me in a soft cast splint type deal with the foot flexed downward a bit... it was weird how they tested - laying on stomach feet off side of gurney - massaged calves (ouch) affected foot no movement, other foot wobble wobble... he seemed to get a kick out of that (lol, pun not intended, but enjoyed anyhow) as he kept doing it over and over to show everyone who came by. The swelling goes from my toes to my knee, and is very tight - this morning my calf is aching more than my ankle, lol.

Oh my, girl! I watch a lot of baseball and I always hear them say how painful it is to tear the Achilles tendon. It takes awhile to recovery from surgery, does it not? I hope you have someone to really look after you. I mean really look after you. You deserve a chance to recovery without having to worry about everything else. One thing thought, what does calcification do? I know it is not good, but is there something to get rid of it?

I have no idea what calcification means, lol. I was thinking it had to do with the arthritis he was seeing on the film? Thank you for the well wishes! I appreciate your kindness.
