Ive just prepared a beef stew which is now cooking nicely away slowly! It took 20 mins to prepare, I used 1 jug, 1 knief, 1 spoon and a pair of scissors which are all washed and put away, and the kitchen is spotless. no drama no hassle. But my girlfriends 20 year old son manages to use every kitchen utensil going, take upto an hour to make a simple sandwich and leaves the kitchen looking like a war zone??? Why? And I hear you say have a word with him and stop moaning, i have and Im not moaning I remember being 20 and cleaning up the kitchen was never a priority, if anything im just laughing and looking forward to the day he has his own house and we get inviting for dinner - cos, sorry George we will come aslong as its a take away :)

I do what the 20 year old does. I use a knife for the mayo a different knife to cut the sandwich, a plate to put the sandwich on, but a separate plate if I have to heat part of it in the microwave then a fork to get the pickles out of the jar. I leave all of that sit on the counter until I am done eating then I put it all away and clean up after I am completely done. LOL It drives my boyfriend crazy too.

WOW! cynicalandoutspoken....I sooooooooooooooooo HATE doing dishes and my husband will not help me in any area of keeping this place clean so I use as few dishes as possible :) I just don't have time to do all those dishes as I work outside the home and have a special needs child also...I don't see a need for all of those dishes but to each his own! ENJOY washing your dishes and have an excellent day! :) ~Heavens~

Funny how we learn to be a little tidier as we get older. I was such a slob in my teenage years, yet now I'm the one who keeps everything picked up. Not a neat freak, just everything in place.

Hey Alfie for starting this discussion. I have a 19 grandson that live with me and I sometimes disrepair of his ever getting into the habit of cleaning up after him self. But i do take heart after read the above discussions. I may not ever get to see it in my house, but some day he may start cleaning up after himself after he leave home. So I guess there is hope for him after all.

I think that that is so unnecessary! I do hope that he grows out of that but I know my husband is a bad one for leaving dishes on the computer desk or end table etc...I am cleaning up after him and my four year old all the time and I am the only one that does dishes because If I don't they don't get done! So, to answer your question, I use the fewest dishes possible and try to wash things up while the dinner is cooking so that there are less to do after and also, I like using my slow cooker as it is one dish and then usually just a cutting board and a couple utensils to prepare dinner...those are my favorite meals or a casserole for the oven as it is less dishes :) ~Heavens~
