Have you ever had a scent remind you of a person or place?

I was out last week at the doctor's office for my kids and when the nurse came in I got the most intense image of my mom. I couldn't figure out why at first because she looked nothing like my mom and then I figured out it was because of her perfume. She was wearing chantilly which was my mom's favorite perfume. Has that ever happened to you..a scent reminds you of a person or place?

I have a lot of scent/memory connections.I've read that smell is one of the strongest triggers of peoples memories. one of the normal ones is spearmint gum reminds me of my grandfather. Most of mine are pretty strange though and i'm not quite sure of some of the connections. the smell of tomato soup reminds me of the movie "the village". not sure why on that one. the smell of cherrios reminds me of being 9 months pregnant and miserable(dry cheerios was one of my cravings). I'm sure there are a lot of others, but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

It a body oil named Epytian Musk and DoubleMint Gum reminds me of my mother. She loved them both I mean to this day I can't take the smell of neither one of them let alone chew doublemint gum.

The smell of coffee reminds me of being back at my grandparent's house in my hometown. One thing about Danish families, is there is ALWAYS coffee around, and most Danish people will understand what I mean, when I talk about the smell of coffee.

I have almost the same reaction when I smell a man with Obsession cologne on. I have such a clear picture of my late father, it is almost scary. My mom's scent was Timeless as I was growing up, so I can only imagine the reaction I will have when I smell someone wearing her scent. LOL

oh yes....all the time. It is usually perfume or even the smell of someone's home that will remind me of someone. Some music also does the same thing for me.

Hi there! Yes, there are times that I get reminded of people and places through scents. First is the smell of freshly-washed clothes taht reminds me of my aunt's home in Bulacan. I really love that smell and whenever I smell that, it makes me miss my aunt and my cousins more. Then there's the perfume, Banch Eight which reminds me of my ex-boyfriend. And last would be the smell of the hospital which reminds me of my grandfather. I miss him.

Most of the time certain songs reminds me of people or events in my life. Sometimes smells remind me of things too though. Certain fabric softener reminds me of sitting in my grandma's kitchen. Her washer and dryer are in the kitchen at her house. The kitchen is where everyone gathers when we go down to visit. I have great memories at my grandma's house.

yes definitely....every time i smell a certain cologne that my husband wears it makes me think of all of our memories and of him being here by my side. he's currently overseas and sometimes i will spray on his cologne just to feel closer to him and to feel like he's sleeping right beside me at night. i really miss him and the days i miss him the most is when i will wear one of his shirts and spray his cologne on it. thanks for posting and God bless

Adidas calogne reminds me of my very first boyfriend in grade nine. Not exactly a pleasant relationship but the smell still reminds me of him. Pine trees, of course, remind me of christmas and turkey as well. Barbeque reminds me of summer, even if the smell is wafting thru the air on a crisp winter day.

You had to go here didn't ya ;-P Ok, I would have to say yes. The scent? Cool Water...It always brings back memories of my first love, Richard Poland. He was the kind of guy that was irresistably charming. You know, the dangerous type!!!

I am a very "scent-sitive" gal and seem to be highly reactive to smell. Some of these experiences have not been pleasant, namely in what the scent evokes in my memory. But there are some warm experiences as well. For example, when I smell lily of the valley, I am reminded of my deceased grandmother who loved the flower and sometimes wore it as a scent. The scent of patchouly oil reminds me of an old, school pal who used to burn this scent of incense in her bedroom at home. It becomes a seemingly infinite list when I think about it. Just call me a "scent-imental" gal.

I sometimes catch a whiff of a cologne that my ex wears. I stop and think about him for a minute every time I smell it.

Yeah I am reminded of my grandma when I smell a particular talcum powder and when I taste a unique type of soup. French onion soups taste and smell reminds me always of our first visti to see a ship though we didnot go sailing in it, we just went inside to see how it looked exactly.

Yes. Anytime I smell peppermint I am reminded of my grandmother on my father's side. That was her favorite candy and she always smelled like it.

This is exactly the reason I never buy Dove shampoo, it reminds me of my ex and it was a bad ending.
