The best part of county and state fairs are always the food. Do you cook any of the foods at home? I make Italian Sausage about once a week. I cook the onions with it. It does not taste as good, but still very tasty.

I don't think there's anything I've tried to make at home. I'm not sure it would be the same. Eating it at the fair makes it different somehow, LOL ... My absolute favorite food from the fair is cheese curds. I'd never had them before I moved to MN and since I don't live there anymore I haven't had them since. Yummmmmm!

I've never had cheese cuds either. I agree that the fair makes them better somehow.

My favorite food from the fair is the elephant ears and the fried mushrooms. My kids like the deep fried turkey legs. I have made the elephant ears (just fried bread) before I ever ate it at the fair. I don't do very much deep frying so the mushrooms are a real treat. here in the south deep frying turkey is the favorite way of fixing it. It takes a lot of peanut oil and a very deep kettle. It has to be very hot. It can be dangerous so I don't fix turkey this way.

No I don't use the tube biscuits for elephant ears. It is yeast bread dough. It is also called Indian bread. You make a yeast bread(any recipe will do)You take biscuit size pieces and either roll them out or stretch them. Let it raise a little while then deep fry it until golden brown turn over then when that side is nicely browned you take them out of the oil and let them drain for a bit. The fair people sprinkle powdered sugar on them but I like to open them up and slather them with butter, Close them back up and let the butter melt and let it drip out the side. Yummm

I have never tried to make fair food at home. I would like to try to mat the elephant ears sometime. They are so good fresh out of the oil at the fair. Now, I am fighting the urge to look up elephant ear recipes. You made me want one. Italian sausage with onions sounds yummy! I really like onions cooked with sausages or brats.
