child support

im a bit upset.my step daughter moved in with us and becuase we have state assistance they want her mom to pay child support.the thing is my husbands ex wife didnt make us pay when my step daughter lived with her.i feel bad about this but its out of my hands.my step daughters mom doesnt seem to mind but i feel bad about it.have you had this happen to you?

The state can make them pay, but the state cannot make you keep the money. You are perfectly free to give the money back, express your respect, and explain why you think this is fair. Another option is to promise that this money is going into a CD in the child's name to pay for her college when she comes of age for that.

I have never been in that type of a situation. I am the one who is due court ordered child support and not receiving it. As long as you are on state assistance she will be forced to pay child support. If you were not on assistance then they would not care.

When u say state assistance, do you mean welfare? i take it you and your husband don't work or are having finan difficulties? how old is the child? they can always take it to court and agree that she doesn't have to pay just because your husband didn't pay when she was with her mother and if they make her pay, he and the mother can draw up an agreement that when the cs is sent, he'll cash the check and give the money back to her. when the mother had her and he wasn't paying any cs, was he giving her anything towards food, helping out with her clothes, what was he doing?
