Okay, so once in a while i make a posting on freecycle that i want baby clothes, once in a while i get a few but usually its other people posting offers, like they ignore my wants! Well a few days ago a lady asked for a FREE DOUBLE STROLLER, and she had a long story about her two year old having to walk in the cold and snow while taking her other kid to school. . It was a pretty good story, true or not. . To my amazement, she just posted a RECIEVED STROLLER! WHAT THE HECK!? I wish i would have posted that first!! I need one of those as well!! I have given away a TON of stuff there too many offers, so its not because i'm just posting wanteds btw ;) Do you think people play favourites on freecycle? or is it just hit and miss ? That lady sure is lucky!

hi sissygrl, I know exactly what you mean about freecycle. I am a part of it too, and i posted something a couple of times and didn't post for a while then I posted a wanted item and got an unexpected email from the moderator telling me that I may be having problems getting my wanted item because I have not posted any offers and I was in shock. I have posted and had been very ill and had not posted in a while because I had nothing to give, but when I joined, I do not remember it being a stipulation that you had to post a certain amount of items before you could post a wanted item. And also the moderator had sent out a group email 2 days prior, stating that freecycle was not a place to get rid of your trash. Then turns around and tells me in the email...one mans trash is another mans treasure...WTF...make up your mind. Now that i have gotten that off my chest...LOL...LOL...have a good day and freecycle until the wheels fall off.

I've only ever posted an item once on freecycle. I gave away a full size piano. It was just taking up way too much room in my home. It was given to me, and I paid it forward. In my case for getting rid of the piano, it was a hit and miss. I decided to give it to the first come first serve, and I kept a list of the order of replies, in case the first one wasn't able to get the piano within a couple of days. I could see how some may play favourites, and really, there's nothing you can do about it. I also would bet that people don't think to look under the category of people asking for things as much as they should. I know I did regarding the piano, but no one had posted that they wanted it. I say... make more posts looking for twin strollers and baby clothes, etc. Heck.. ask for all sorts of crazy things.. because you just never know! (a good friend of mine got a perfectly good apt sized washing machine via freecycle! How cool is THAT??).

I think some people have their favorites, but I also think it is a hit and miss thing. I would definitely keep it up.

Hmmmm.. ..well our local Freecycle has strict rules about no "sob stories". So if that lady had posted it on ours it would have been removed by the moderator. That said, I think people DO like a good story, so if you're really in need and your Freecycle allows you to post stories, I'd say go for it! Good luck, sissygrl- I wish I still had my double stroller to pass on to you!

I'm not sure that people play favorites on freecycle, but I'm sure there are lots that keeps notes of those who don't show up when they say they will! :) I know that myself, I'll often see a want post for, say, a baby gate and I know I have one in my basement but I did have something in mind for it in the future. And then the next day I see that there's another baby gate wanted post and I think that there are obviously more people out there who need it than me, and if I really need one in the future I can always count on freecycle again, right? Do you see what I mean? I always post anything I might need on there, regardless of whether or not I might get responses because you just don't know. Don't get disheartened either -- if you don't get a response the first time, post again. I know I'm not the only one who might notice a trend with certain items being needed more than others, or for one person who seems to really desperately need the item.

As a newby there, I can't say, but I have e-mailed the third person our of four who said they were interested in my small bag of boys clothes.. And only someone who has a boy or even better, a boy and girl, know that boys clothes are a treasure, very hard to find, so I am surprised that I am not getting replies to these back. Maybe I am doing it wrong, they send me a message and I hit the reply button, correct? Or do I have to go through freecycle to contact them, because I am finding this to be very strange..

No you are doing it right, once they respond to you they have your email and you have theirs! I have had a few people that say they are going to pick stuff up and never have either.

I joined a few months ago, but haven't used it yet. I am doing an early spring cleaning this weekend though and will place a few things on there to give away. I've never really found anything that I wanted. I can't believe some of the things that people try to give away, like frozen meat and broken fish tanks! Children's toys, clothes and furniture seem to be the popular thing around here.

I have been a member of my local freecycle for about two years and I have given many things away and also collected many things for frineds and family, not much for myself, However when I first moved I had a fridge frezzer but only space for two separates under counter items for a fridge and a frezer. I requested these items and received, the fridge was new and delivered to me also. I then after receipt of these items posted my fridge freezer which went to a good home. Why don't you still post a wanted for that item, I am sure someone else out there will have one. Ask and you shall receive so they say. Yesterday someone collected a computer monitor from me and that was given to me to put on by a neighbour as she had upgraded to a flatscreen and was taking to dump and I said no I will find a newhome for it, which I did do. Fantastic site, you will always get people that abuse by asking all the time and perhaps even selling on, but the purpose is for the items not to go to landfill so I don't let these guys affect. Ellie:D
