How Long Must The Torture Go On?!

How many times do you have to watch a movie before you learn, not just the theme song, but also the rest of the DVD's repertoire? Exactly four, for me. And then I start to learn the dialogue. My son has very strong interests, and doesn't easily give them up. For about 16 months, it was Shrek every day, multiple times a day. I like Shrek, even still. I kept it on all day when I was pregnant and my husband was at work so I'd have "company". Now it's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and if I hear "spring-a-ling-a-ling-time day" in my sleep anymore, my son is going to be out of one $18 DVD. I didn't mind Shrek because it was one my favorite movies before my son was born, and I already knew most of the dialogue (I'm a serious geek). Mickey is starting to get on my nerves. For a couple of weeks, it was Finding Nemo or Lilo and Stitch. Could they be brought back for a farewell tour? Alas, no. Only Mickey Mouse and friends, and their flying clubhouse, and not even the beloved Shrek to give them a break. Are there any movies that you didn't mind before your children played them to death, but now you can't stand because of this reason? I thought it would be amusing to see how many people reply "Barney" or something like that. (I don't like him, either, so much so that I never even let my son watch it.)

ROFL, it's so funny that GWTW should be your "torturous" movie, because my sister and I also know that one backward and forward! My mom and my uncle used to sit and watch it over and over again, and to this day we can all quote the dialogue to one another... And the sad thing is, we DO quote the dialogue to one another, lol! One of my fave lines is when Mammy tells Scarlett she's "Jes' lak a SPIIIdah!" So cool to find another who likes GWTW!

Oh man do I fill your pain we went though back yard agains, then it was finding nemo, now we are stuck on cars. I tend to forget most of the words when I don't watch it for a while I think those words get replaced by new ones. It takes me a while to learn al the words because I hardly ever sit down and watch the whole movie I will watch this part and that part. But I do have my favorite lines from each movie.

That was indeed a torture. You, in the comfort of your own home, watches the same DVD over and over again. I know that really sucks. Why don't you confront your kids so that you won't be tormented everyday, living like hell? I know its hard to talk to them about that because they might not understand in their early age. Or maybe, you should give them many variations of DVD and establish a schedule of movie-watching everyday so that they won't repeat the same show over and over again--and stick to it.

I don't actually watch it. I hear the music through the house while I'm cleaning, which takes about 2 playings of the DVD to complete, and then we go outside. It's easier to let him watch the same one over and over than to try to change his mind because he throws a fit to the point of puking, and even though it's irritating to hear the same thing day after day, it isn't really a living hell. It's just Mickey Mouse. This was supposed to be a humorous discussion, anyway.

I think I may be lucky. My daughter likes a bunch of different movies. So nothing much gets on my nerves. I get little breaks. And she even likes movies that I watched as a kid. Like the dark Crystal and such. Barney thankfully she has almost outgrown. That came the closest to my last nerve. When we go to the library to get her books for the week, my hubby and she pick a few videos as well. So it works out usually.

Do you also like Labyrinth with Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie? That's one of my favorites. It's awesome that your daughter likes some of the same things you did! Thanks for posting!

I feel your pain LOL. My son is the same way. He takes spells on which is the hot character at the moment. It used to be Blue's Clues, then Winnie the Pooh, then Elmo, then back to Winnie the pooh. Now, it's Max and Ruby and Teletubbies ( which I can't stand) and when the show is over, we have to sing the song about a gazillion times. It can really wear you out after awhile. I've always loved Winnie the Pooh, still do, but it's now a trail for me to sit and watch him, which my little one wants me to do. I can hardly wait to see what my little girl is going to be into when she gets old enough to understand such stuff...please lord don't let it be "the bratz"!!!

AMEN! My mom got so tired of picking up Barbie this and Barbie that, but better Barbie than Bratz! At least she has a normal name... My little boy doesn't mind if I don't watch, but I hear it all over the house, anyway. Thanks for posting!
