Do you experience involuntary muscle spasms or twitching?

Eye won't stop twitching - Picture of an eye that won't stop twitching

When I'm really tired or really stressed, it's almost a guarantee that I will get an eye twitch. Apparently, it is a common human reaction, and to the best of my knowledge, there is not much I can do about it, short of getting more rest, and dealing with the issues that are causing me stress. In the last few months, I have experienced the strangest muscle spasm. It was strong again this morning, and actually woke me up early (so much for sleeping in on a Saturday!). The spasm is in my abdomen, right about where I think my diaphragm is, just below where my ribcage meets at the front. What bothers me the most is that this spasm is very similar to the feelings of being kicked from inside while pregnant, and it freaks me out a little bit, because I know I can NOT be pregnant. lol. Do you have muscle spasms or twitching? Where do you get them? Are there extenuating circumstances or factors that seem to make them happen? Is it a diet thing? Or an emotional thing? Am I the only one who's experienced the abdominal twitch?

Yes I do!! Unfortunately.:( Muscle spasm, eyelid twitches... :(( I do think it might be because of insufficient rest or wrong postures. Most times, I know (can guess) the reason(s) so I try to make the situation better. Other times, I try to forcefully control them to do-nothing.

LOL, good one. Well I was thinking more of the muscles than the eyelid... :P

Forcefully control them? I have visions of you punching yourself in the eye, to get rid of the twitch. ;)

I have had twitching because of my c section scar off and on since My daughter was born that feels an awfully lot like a kick! And one time when i was working nights and not able to sleep , probably from drinking WAY too much coffee, My one eye started to twitch twitch all the time. No one could see it but i sure could feel it!!

I had a c-section with my twins, and the only "complication" (if you want to call it that) is that I never did get back all of the feelings in that area like I was told I would. Ah yes, an overload of caffeine could do the spasm thing indeed! lol!

i have the eye twitching now and then, and even the twitching you refer to in different places in my body from what I know it doesn't mean anything.

It's good to see that I'm not the only one who goes through this. :)

When I'm really stressed my eye twitches as well...once the stress is gone the twitching stops. Sometimes if I've typed for too long, my fingers will twitch as well. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I've had those twitching several times, and in our culture, usually, it is related to what will happen to you later in the day. That would be just a myth, and if so it happens, it's just coincidence. Some say that if your left eye twitches, then you're going to cry later in the day. haha. and.. if your right eyes twitches, you'll see someone that you've been longing to see. haha. I'd wish if the next time my right eye twitches, I would like to see Russel Crowe :P. Anyway, I read from an article, that the twitching usually occurs when the veins near your eyes have not been getting enough oxygen they are supposed to get. So, if that happens again, try a gentle massage around your eyes. As for muscle spasms, I read that this is because the blood does not flow well to those veins, producing cramps and spasms. That's what I read :).

I've never heard that myth, or "old wives tale" about the eye twitching. Hmmm... my right eye was twitching as well. I wonder who I'll see today that apparently I've been longing to see? :P

I used to suffer a lot from eye twitches when I was very stressed and my wife still does. The only thing that seemed to work was a complete switch off, and that's a heck of a lot easier to say than do. Your abdominal twitch is probably nothing, but it's very disconcerting and if it continues please go and get it checked out.

A complete switch off of the stresses is far too difficult to do, but I can see how that would work.

I thought i was the only one that had this problem. I am a male 28 years old and i too have had for months now a muscle spasm or twitch in my abdomen, in the exact place you are talking about, just below my rib cage. I am so sick of it, it is driving me crazy. I'm depressed and never want to go anywhere or do anything. I can not concentrate on anything, no matter what im doing it just goes on and on, to the point where i want to shoot myself. I would do or try anything to get rid of this, have you had any relief from anything that you have tried? I've heard that a magnesium deff. is alot of times the cause for spasms or twitches. Maybe a multi-vitamin could really help you, it seems to have worked well for others but unfortunaltley not for myself. Take care and keep in touch if you hear of any new remedies and ill do the same!

Hi Recently i've been very anxious and stressed and as a result been having restless sleep. Ive developed little twiches everywhere, like the ones you get in your eye (ive had them before too) But i'm getting them like either side of my chin now, which to be honest scares me a bit, although i don't know why they should. I hope it's not an indication of anything serious?! And just a reaction to stress and tiredness brought on by anxiety! Does anyone else get this sometimes??
