I've recently started reading books by Jodi Picoult. They're hard to come by through the book trading site that I'm on.. however maybe the wait is what makes them more enjoyable.
I am looking for simliar authors to her writing style. I am finding that I like books that are written based on a "what would you do in a situation if you were faced with... _________"
What books have you read that have really made a difference in the way you think about things, or books that caused you to really think about the way it was written and the "What would you do?" from the book.
Do you have a favorite author that you would recommend to someone? Why? Is it because you identified with their way or writing or is it because you think others would benefit from reading the book?
I'm not talking about Non-Fiction Self Help Books or religion and politics. I'm talking about books that are written based on life changing experiences and what they meant to you.

I recently read Jodi Picoult's book "Plain Truth". I loved it. She really did a lot of research in order to write that story. It was very detailed about the Amish life. We have an amish family that comes into McDonald's once in awhile and my daughter is always asking me questions, like why do they wear those white hats? Well, while reading that book I was able to give her the answers to some of her (my) questions.
I like Joy Fielding as an author, probably mostly because she is Canadian. But I do like her stories. I have been reading more and more Canadian writers but I have several oldie but goodies that I tend to stick with like Lawrence Sanders, Ed McBain, Sue Grafton, Andrew M. Greeley and Catherine Cookson (I know, totally different genre which I don't usually like, but I like HERS).
Sometimes I will read one sentence in a book that will hit me and make me think, "Yeah, that's the way I feel too." So many people feel that way and someone actually put it into words. That kind of thing.

I JUST started Plain Truth. It was funny you said that because I had that book on my shelf, I had read like 3 or 4 of her books in a row and started a different author to take a little break.. and I had to go back and pick up Plain Truth, I just love her writing and the books are awesome. I'm going to be sad when I read all of the books she has out. Thanks for the comment!
